OK...I m not a fan of talk shows...or even reality based shows (cept for cops), but this one was the only thing that was coming in clear on the office TV (I really need to run cable in here).  Today s show was called " 3 Pigs and a Trailer" , and it was just so wrong on so many levels.  Not gonna describe it...cept it was like seeing a bad car wreck...you know you shouldn t look..but just cann t help yourself.

Cadeuses

 rednekrubbrduckRNRD.... just one question...

What do you do for work?

rednekrubbrduck

CadeusesI was in telecommunications installation till I got caught up in the layoffs back in Nov.  If it wasn t for a generous soul, probabally wouldn t even be on this board since we re watching our money.  Job market is real tight right now.  I cann t complain though...got layed off better then most (2 mos pay, and health insurance for about 6 mos before I have to pay COBRA), seems most are just shown the door.  Unemployement is a lil more then expected..and we re making do.   Been called back on a couple of interviews (initial), but haven t heard from one...and the other...start time is 5..and daycare opens at 6, so don t think I can take it (more for when Lori gets better and goes back to work cause she works nights).  Keeping my fingers crossed for a company called Everest that does phone/cable/and internet all rolled up into one package.  They said they should be hiring soon, and I was given an " in" .  Kind of works out..so now I can better take care of Lori, and Logan (with what he s going thru).

rednekrubbrduckYou still get Jerry Springer .They took him of the air here in st louis. He was fun to watch when i was working late. Never new what would come up next , but you could count on a fight somewhere in the show.

 jackgoesthepopupRNRD....

Here s hoping the best works out for you, and you get the job from EVEREST!  In the meantime,... carry on!  Sounds like you have the resources to do well in life!  [:D]

rednekrubbrduckOhhhhh! I miss understood the subject of your post. I thought you were on the Jerry Springer show.

 My mistake![;)]

Gamecock Camper

rednekrubbrduckVenatic, that s what I was thinking, and I ve never met the  duck, just read his posts.  And by the way, good luck on your job search.  I found myself unemployed this morning.  I ve been working part-time for the last 2-1/2 years and gave my notice to work until mid-February and retire (I m not old, just ok in the $$$ department).... got a call this morning, that s right a call, that my position was being eliminated (this is about the 6th or 7th layoff in the last year and a half) immediately.  The funny thing is that I will get a severance package that pays me past my " retirement date"  and now I may even file for unemployment since I ll be eligible.

I decided to do some writing and see if any of my thoughts can be published.  I was a journalism major and have always had that goal.  It s nice to have a DW that brings in the bacon and at the same time enjoys her work....   We ll see what happens.    Now time to work on perfecting that golf swing (that is not too good right now)...

Venatic

rednekrubbrduckI can understand being out of work Gamecock Camper and renekrubbrduck. I was laid off in June and just started back to work in December.

Depending upon your profession, you might want to check out consultanting firms. That was the only way I was able to find something.

 Good luck in your search.

rednekrubbrduckWe saw that same show late last night.  DH was flipping through channels as there was nothing on.  It was absolutely the grossest thing I have ever seen.  I can t believe we actually watched it!  At least we weren t the only ones.

rednekrubbrduckVenatic, thanks but no thanks (LOL).  I have been going back and forth on retiring over the last two years and finally decided to retire so that I could work on the other projects I am involved in.  It was just kind of funny how this played out.  I had announced to my manager on Tuesday that I wanted to retire and would shoot for a date in mid-February (to the 14th).  She told me to keep it to myself this week and then called me on Friday to tell me that my position had been eliminated and that my employment end date was effective immediately.  I don t retire on my terms,  but will get more pay due to the severence package.  Such is life.  I guess I was layed off because in a sense I had already " put my name in the hat"  so to speak to retire.   Usually when the company has a layoff, they have a certain number of people, so by putting me on the layoff list instead of the retirement list I probably saved someone else s job.

rednekrubbrduckVenatic, good idea..that s what my dad did in the 80 s.  He retired from the power company, and came back as a consultant with more time off for his hobbies, and making more money.  Gamecock...glad it worked out for you..even though it seemed a little sneaky.  I have a lot of friends who " golf" , but usually drink more beers then hit balls.  They spend a lot of time on the 19th hole.  Now...myself, nor my family, has ever been, nor ever will be, on the Springer show.  [:D]  Never did understand how folks can go on those shows when they know they re setting themselves up for ridicule.  I ll stick with the history channel...ty very much.

rednekrubbrduckI Hate golf.  Properly because i goof not golf. My dad is a very good golf player. He has even been kown to play in snow with a orange ball. the last and only time he ever asked me to go play golf with him ended up me carrying his golf clubs for him. Besides whats the sense of hitting a little ball as far as you can to walk up and hit it again.

Gamecock Camper

rednekrubbrduckIf you are losing more golf balls than beers you drink, then maybe it is time you pick another sport.  I m ok with playing a round of golf or two, but I would never play to become too competitive, only to have fun and socialize.  Last year I believe that I played twice.  I m ok with that because I d rather spend time with my family.  It doesn t make sense to me to play a game on a regular basis that takes around 4 to 5 hours to play.  Fun, but I have other " irons in the fire" .

rednekrubbrduck

rednekrubbrduckSpeakin of Golf...has anyone seen that new (semi) Robin Williams routine on HBO and the part he does on how the Scots came up with Golf as a sport for the torture?  Way funny.
