I have something very similar to this  :

 http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=414-700

When I  try to pump it, air pressure does not build in the tank, I can feel it resisting, no amount of pressure makes air get into the tank. I opened the valve to see if it would spurt some gas and it did not, is this an easy fix ?

Gone-Camping

birolThere are only a couple things it could possibly be Birol.... First thing I d do is run down to nearest Wal-Mart (or Canadian equivalent) and buy a new pump for it, only cost a couple of bucks and easy to replace. It might also need a new generator (that little brass " L"  shaped piece behind the knob), also dirt cheap and easy to replace. The only other thing it could be would be the valve itself, but those rarely ever go bad. I d be willing to bet that the pump assemby itself has a problem.

Also, make sure you re holding your thumb over the tiny pin hole in the end of the pump shaft while pumping. And make sure you turn the pump about a 1/4 turn (I believe clockwise) prior to pumping, and turn it back again before releasing you re thumb from the pin hole!!!

The pump also will leak air back if it s totally dry, I belive they have a leather seal, and a drop or two of oil to soften the seal would also be beneficial...

birolTurn the pump ? What for ? I did not do that of course , which direction I turn it to ? :):):)
I now distinctly remember cavman telling me to turn the pump, sigh ....... I am dumb very dumb .......

 Only 4 days !!!!! I can t wait !!!!!

I am buying a propane tank for my weber tomorrow [:)] I need to field test it before hauling it all the way !
You think brining both is  stupid ? Weber is for the meat and maybe potatoes, other one is to heat water maybe soup ...... or maybe to make pancakes if I can find the flat grill thing tomorrow at wallmart !

Gone-Camping

birolI think clockwise.... You should turn it all the way (one way or the other) and should feel it " lock"  into it s resting position... That is where you need to turn it out of for pumping, and keep your thumb over that hole while pumping too![:D]

birol

birolI will test it first thing tomorrow morning , thanks :)  I will let you know the results !

Gone-Camping

birolYep, turn the pump about a quarter of a turn, you should " feel"  it come out of it s resting position, then holding your thumb over the hole in the end of the pump, start strokin... When you feel it tighten up (pressurize) then push the pump in, and turn the pump back to it s resting position THEN release your thumb from that hole!

Before you buy a new pump, try a couple drops of 3-in-1 oil or something similar on the pump seal, I ve even successfully used vegtible oil on it when servicing it at the campsite before!!! [:o]

birol

birolBut the pump is already out, it is pumpable ............

Gone-Camping

birolHeh? Ya lost me.... It can t be pumpable if it s not pumping up?!?! What you mean it s already out?

birol

birolyup, it is already out :)

birolCLiff, I think he means he can pull the handle and it comes out.
Birol it will feel like it s pumping when it s in the " locked"  (turned all the way) but won t pressurize the tank. Look s like just turning that 1/4 turn will cure your problem. At least let s hope it s that simple.

birol

birolThanks guys, problem solved, turned it CCW little bit and  it built pressure ! Now I gotta go find a flat thingie to be able to cook pancakes on it, tomorrow !

 Thanks thanks thanks !!!!
