BI do know to watch for bears in that area, same goes for northern new jersey, my sister lives there and has them in her yard almost daily... not trying to scare you just be careful...

BReally bears? I have only run into a bear once and that was while driving in a jeep in the Pocono mountains in Pa and we literally ran into him, he spun the jeep 360 degrees! We saw another mother and three cubs up by jim thorpe, poconos, last fall but other than those encounters have never dealt with bears while camping. B

BThe catskills have some wonderful camping, and in all the times I ve been there I have only seen bears one time. PA, on the other hand, has a far bigger bear problem then I ve ever encountered in NY.

The NY state parks are great for " primitive"  (no hookups) camping. I ve been to Mongaup, North-South Lake and Little Pond. All are very nice.
