 All,

After receiving my A/C bracket and installing it, was wondering how this was better for the top of the A/C not to blow off. A metal strip across the top with two screw holes .  What is the science of this piece?[&:]

whitestar505The main problem is that there is nothing to keep the cover from flexing up and down as wind passes under it while you drive down the road.  The two screws that hold the cover on are just not enough.  The repeated flexing causes the cover to break.  The bracket acts like a strap across the top that will not allow the cover to flex and break.  You d get the same effect if you ran a web strap over the top of the cover and under the bottom of the PU and then tightened it down.
 Hope this is clear.

Thanks.   I never seen one come off. I know they do because of hear say.

whitestar505We installed one of Popup Gizmo s A/C braces after one of our camping trips. We were following another camper. The winds were very strong. Sure enough, it looked like a scene out of the movie " Twister."  Here came their A/C shroud flying over the top of our Explorer like one of the cows in the movie.

I got back home, emailed Bob and ordered one of the straps.

whitestar505When I first got the pop up I was surprised to see the A/C shroud " flopping in the wind"   I checked the screws and they were tight.

I picked up one of the braces and when I climbed up to to put it on I noticed I was close to loosing the shroud.  All the screw holes had severe cracks around them - not much holding it on.

I put the brace on and now no movement at all.  As I was within the first year Coleman gave me a new shroud.

I have been told that the shroud design has been changed to prevent the damage, but in my opinion if you have a Mach A/C you need a brace.

whitestar505When was the cover re-designed?  The ones I ve seen recently look exactly the same.  You would think this would be addressed pretty quick but at $150 a piece why would they (Coleman or whoever makes them) move too fast?

Obviously the redesign (if there really was one) had to have occured between 2000 & now.  I first heard it was re-designed about a year ago, but have no independant information.

The A/C manufacturer must be spending a fortune on warranty replacements - I would think that they want them to last at least the year waranty period.

whitestar505The Coleman Mach airconditioner that is on our new 2003 1/2 looks a little different even that the picture of the one in the 2003 1/2 brochure.  I had heard about the vibration problem (on here of course...where I learn everything I may need!) so I wanted to check it out.  When we took it out the first time it was a real windy day and I watched it out the back window while DH drove and couldn t detect any vibration at all.  Not even when big trucks would go by.  I mkeeping my fingers crossed!
