When opening or closing our stepper door the left hinge gets hung up and you have to reach down and " hold it and/or push it"  to be able to open and or close the door.  We store the camper a long distance from a dealer and would like to fix this ourselves rather than tow it to a dealer if anyone has any ideas.  Would appreciate any help.  Has anyone ever had this problem?

 camphostWhere is it getting hung-up?

Are you referring to the actual hinge at the bottom of the door assembly, or the locking bolt that protrudes from the door?

If it is the hinge, you may need to take it in to the dealer for adjustment.  I read of one coleman owner who s 350lb neighbour jumped onto his stepper door, and promptly broke the hinge mechanism clean off one whole side of the trailer s stepper door.  I haven t heard much about that neigbour since... (probably best anyway), but I remember it took him a lot of doing to get the door fixed himself with the proper components.  A dealer fix would be my suggestion.  If its the dead bolt at the top... be careful not to let it fall inside the door.  That will cause even more headaches, trust me.

camphostNo, it is the hinge itself.  At the bottom of the hinge, where the two bars meet, you have to sort of push it to the outside while raising or lowering the door, or it gets hung up.

camphostWell I don t really have any suggestions on how to approach a permanent fix in your case.  If the PU is still under warranty, (remember you get five years from Fleetwood) then I would let them fix it, even though the trip might be long.  I have about 150 mi to go to get to our dealer, and would drive it that far for this kind of a problem.

That door has to support you and you family each and every time you enter or exit the PU, which asks a lot of the hinge.  If the warranty is passed, give your dealer a call and let them know the problem.  Maybe they have a quick fix for it.

HTH, and have yourself a great day![:)]

The five year part of the Coleman warrenty is only for the Sunbrella tenting, the roof in the Destiny line of  trailers and the motorized components of the 2003 Montery.

The Grand Tour roof, steel frame, structurwood floor and bed platform, and the lift system all have a life time warrenty.

The rest of the Coleman Trailer has only a one year warrenty.[:(]

Congratulations on being alert enough to catch my error! [:@]My hat goes off to you![:D]

You are absolutely right about the warranty.  Oh well, I would still have the dealer do the fix on this one.

 Have a great day!

camphostJust for grins you might crawl under your camper and check the hinge bolts where the stepper door is mounted to the trailer frame.  I found mine had loosened over time and had to be retightened.  If they are loose the door may be getting cocked at an angle and causing the butterfly support straps to bind.
