I don?t know why I haven?t posted earlier about my Memorial Day camping calamities.  My DH and DS?s were going to Canada with the Boy Scouts, but DD and I didn?t want to miss a 3 day weekend, so we made reservations to go to anyways.

Since my TV needed new shocks, I had a friend come tow my camper since the park we are going to is only about 15 miles away, and then he was going to go home to tow his camper.

This went fine until we turned onto a bumpy road, and my camper went flying off the back of his hitch!  It bounced around on the road until he could get his truck stopped.  Luckily, I had removed the propane bottle from the tongue.  I don?t even remember why I took it off.  The battery case did come off, but we?ve never used the battery anyhow.  He insists that his ball is the same size as mine, and that the pin was in place, so I don?t know how it came off, but we were able to lift it back on and get on the road again.

We made it the rest of the way just fine, and had a pretty good weekend.  It didn?t rain as much as expected.  DH and sons came home late Sunday night and we packed up and left Monday afternoon.

We got home and DH decided to back the camper into our upper driveway instead of lower driveway like we normally do.  It?s very tough to back the camper into our drive, because we live on a pretty busy road, and traffic doesn?t slow down for us.

He backed the camper in, hit the corner of it on the corner of the carport and popped the light cover off in the back.  Did a little bit of other minor damage.  DH and sons were unhooking and I hopped in the van to pull it out.  He asked me to back it up a little, which I did, and then left my foot on the brake and the vehicle in reverse.  DH thought I had the van in park, so he told me to take my foot off the brake, thinking it would just drift back an inch or so.  Of course it drifted back more than a few inches and broke the wheel jack off the tongue, causing the entire camper to crash down right on top of DH?s foot!

Luckily, he was wearing a heavy pair of leather boots.  He unbelievably did not break any bones, although it was very swollen and sore for several weeks.
