We are planning to go to MI this Monday and see a few PU manufacturers, factory tours and stuff. Anyr ecoomendations for good campgrounds where we can just go and have a good and clean time, which is central for us to visit the manufacturers ?

ForestCreature

 birolBirol,
Where in MI are you headed?

birol

 birolUmm  Middle :):):)

Centreville ? We wanna see the PU manufacturers, more there other than Viking ? I thought they were all close by ....

ForestCreature

 birolBirol,
To be honest, I have no idea what Pop Ups are made in MI!
But Centerville is not in the center of the state, neither is Middleville ![:D] I have never camped down that way, we always go north.
There is a State Park in that area tho. [link=http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/ParksandTrailsInfo.asp?id=443]Coldwater State park[/link]
That part of the State is fairly flat and other than you factory visit, I can t help you much as far as what there is to do there... from there to Mackinac is about a 6  hr  drive or so.
But if you pass thru Detroit on the way maybe we can meet for lunch or what ever!

birolWe toured the Jayco factory in Middlebury Indiana on Wednesday with the Glpuc. Monday thru Friday tours start at 130 pm. I enjoyed the tour. The plant was not as automated as I thought it would be. It sure made me think about upgrading.50% of all RV s are manufactured in Elkhart County,Indiana. contact Mike Huber at the ElkhartCounty Convention Center for tour details at 800.860.5951

birolI just read your  other post in the Campfire,  if you are only going for 4 days go to the Mackinac area and skip the tours . To do both you will spen many hours driving and not camping. From Mackinac City are you can venture into the UP and see much more.

Campaholics

birolSo many cool places, so little time.  Another to add to the list of possibles, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, on the Lake Michigan shore.  We tent camped there about seven years ago.  Worth a couple of days.  I agree that Mackinac is a good base for four days or so.  There is a state park on the UP side of the bridge, that is basicaly just the CG.  Within a day trip is Painted Rocks National Lake Shore, a state park with some really neat water falls, and Mackinac Island with its mixture of neat historical stuff and straight up tourist trap; but woth the trip anyway.

 Have a great trip,

birolCampaholics, I believe you meant Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.  They are beautiful.  And don t forget Taquamanon Falls State Park.  They have three nice campgrounds.  A personal favorite of mine, cuz the falls are absolutly beautiful.

birolLike someone else said, I d skip the plant tours and do more tourist stuff in Michigan.  But then again, I m very partial to the state as my whole family was born there.

We will be at Lakeport State Park, north of Port Huron, for a week and then we re going north to the Straits State Park for a few days.  Mackinac Island is worth the effort to see as is Sault St. Marie where the huge lake freighters lock through, almost close enough to touch!  DH is a serious scuba diver and he has plans to dive at both stops of our trip.

 Happy Camping,

birolArrrrggghh , too little time to do research :(:(:( We should have satrted earlier :(  I dunno what to do now [:@]

birolNo trip to MI ........ We don t have enough time to get ready, make a plan and so on .... lessone # 1 learned, plan well in advance , it is not like hopping into the car, sighseeing and checking in into a hotel we like [;)]

birolSome people camp just like you sight see.  I usually don t but you could.

ForestCreature

 birolBirol,
Just hop in the car and do it!!  All of the MI State parks hold a number of sites that are unreservable. You also have the State forests that take no reservations.
Where is your sense of adventure!

Campaholics

 birolStarcraftdad,
You are correct, caulk it up to brain cramps.  Taquamanon Falls State Park was the falls I had in mind.  Anyway there is one heck of a lot of beautiful country in the UP.  Just thinking about it, makes me wish I could say to heck with work and just go.
