RE: BAL Leveler Sinks (not stinks)

I finally got a BAL leveler a few weeks ago and the campground we go to the most is very sandy/loose dirt.  Because of this I had to crank up the leveler all the way just to get a couple of inches of lift due to the base sinking in the dirt.

Any neat tricks to keep this from happening?  The second time I used it I put some 2x4 s under it and it helped, but was still a pain to use since I had to dig out some space to put in the wood.  I m thinking a 3/4"  piece of plywood cut to the shape of the bottom might be the trick.

 Any suggestions appreciated.

TheWallRockswe use the bright orange linx levelers under ours...but a piece of wood maybe 10x10x1 would work too.

TheWallRocks

TheWallRocksI m thinking the easiest thing may be to drive on a piece of plywood and set up the BAL from there...... no fancy cutting involved.

ForestCreature

TheWallRocksWe take along a piece of plywood just for that reason. So far we have not been able to test that out, most places we have gone have had a hard dirt surface.

TheWallRocksCut a piece of plywood, just the size of your stepper door box, should work and takes up useless room.

I haven t done it yet, but that is what I will do if I need to.

TheWallRocksGreat idea about cutting something to fit in the stepper door storage box.  I knew there was a reason I got the door fixed on that!

 Thanks.

That s what is in mine, and the crank. Haven t used either of them this year, but they are there. I switched to a drill last year, but if I forget to charge the battery I still got the crank.

TheWallRocksI do not understand.  If you are going to drive onto a piece of plywood why not just drive onto a leveler.  I have a terraced ramp that i use for leveling made of 1x6 deck boards.  I really do not know how much simpler leveling could be.  I just place it against the tire and then pull or back on to it as the situation dictates.

MtnCamper

TheWallRocksGarret, The thing about the leveler is it " holds"  the tire. Therefore no roll, or even shake. It can t roll off.

Also you can get your trailer perfectly level, not just close. So my eggs don t run to one side of the pan.[:D]

I cut the piece of plywood a year ago, and haven t had to use it, But it s there if I need it. Never had a problem sinking yet.

TheWallRocks

 TheWallRocksReason I purchased the BAL.......

Where we camp is VERY sandy, and I have found it near impossible to roll the tires up on blocks..... even just a 2x6 gets pushed out of the way.  Even with a V8 Durango in 4-low it is a challenge sometimes, and having to drive " up"  on something makes a bad situation worse.  The Durango has been a life-saver in the sand..... it pretty much drags the Bayside through it leaving 6-8"  deep trenches where the trailer tires go.  Obviously we like the beach!

These conditions are why I purchased the BAL, and hopefully with a good size piece of plywood it will become much easier to park, and level.

TheWallRocksWhy buy the leveler? - Great for keeping marriages intact!! [:D]  We used our BAL leveler for the first time this year in Branson - wow, it made it so much easier to get set up!  With the Lynx levelers somehow I was never able to get the tires exactly where DH wanted them to be.

Ill have to mention to him the plywood idea, although we re usually at hard dirt/gravel sites.

TheWallRocksDon t get me wrong...I love my BAL leveler...

But in loose, sandy soil, or on the beach, it s much easier to just dig a hole on the high side and back the high side wheel into it.

I ve used the BAL Leveler at a beach, and sand, grease, and drive screws don t mix well...

 So it goes...
