RE: What are your favorite children s board games

I want to get a coulpe of board games that I can play with my son to keep in the camper.  His is 5 years old.  I saw several games I remember as a child on ebay.  
 My favorites were monopoly, battleship, & bingo.  What are your family s favorites?

Some of my favorites that I think would be good for a small child were Cootie and Mousetrap. Both involve putting things together so there s a lot more " visual"  involved.

We used to love Monopoly and Scrabble ! Still play monopoly sometimes, till our DD starts whining [] then we peacefully fold the board if she doesn t stop  quickly ...... She can be a whiner sometimes, rare but it happens. And Monopoly is one of them [&:]

It s been a long time -- how about, Candyland, Shoots & Ladders, card games (go fish), there used to be for traveling -- bingo with slide windows and you covered when you saw either objects (cows, horses, etc) or street signs.
 
 Now for those with older kids, try " Sequence"  -- we bought it about a month ago and the teens we took camping a few weeks ago, couldn t stop playing.  One night they played from 8:30pm to 2:30am (that s when I told them enough - I WANT TO SLEEP - we had 6 teens around the dining table in the PU[][])

Personally, i d think regular monopoly would be a little difficult and involved for a 5 year old.  ...but then personally, I can t stand the game!  LOL...My cousin totally burned me out on this one when I was a child. Every time we visited that s all she wanted to do and I was stuck having to stay inside with her. I wanted to be outside playing with the boys.  []  
 
 I have a 6 year old grandson now who LOVES to play games. Some of his favorites (and ones we all don t absolutely hate playing) are:
 Operation
 Shhhh! Don t Wake Dad
 Cranium Cadoo (a definite favorite with the kids)
 Perfection
 Lego Creator Board Game (really cool for kids who love lego anyway)
 Tribond Jr.
 Clue Jr
 
 And of course, the older standbys.....Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and there is a Monoply Jr. Version if you just love that game.  ;>

I can t remember the name of a game we used to play. Iy was a solar system version of monopoly, where you would travel the system, buy stars, planets and thier moons in place of real estate.  We had picked it  up on the road  during a very rainy camping trip.
 That ended up being one of our favorites for years. It was a fantastic introduction to astronomy for my son.
 
 Must have had a lasting affect, he now has a scope and is dabbling in astrophotograpy as an adult!

Young children love board games but most of the time I see them walking around with " Game Boy"  computers. Candyland, Shutes and Ladders, Bingo and Monopoly are our grandchildren s favorites.

Here s the list we currently have in the PU. I have invested in the travel size games so they store neatly in a drawer.
 
 Hi C
 jenga
 Chinese checkers
 checkers
 tic tac toe
 regular cards
 snakes and ladders
 scrabble (comes in jr too)
 don t wake daddy
 Yahtzee
 boggle
 and a supply of paper and coloured pencils
 
 some trips they never come out of the drawer others they are out every nite.

My kids are 3 & 6, so it s hard to find things they both enjoy/understand.  Most of the time the 3 year old just cheats and we ignore it.  Card games work well, and our 6 year old loves dominoes (Mexican Train and Chicken Foot).  Plus the board games listed above (Monopoly Jr, CandyLand,etc) and drawing keeps them busy when we re not out enjoying nature.

We have several games in the PU, but usually only play one.  My yougest DS (14) loves to play Trouble.  The game with the dice in the little pop thingy in the middle.  You move the little colored " men"  around the board.  Easy to play, great for learning counting for the little ones and a minimal amount of pieces to lose.[]
