We re thinking about taking a 5 day trip to Colorado (from the DFW, TX area).  I have looked at some of their State Parks and have selected the top one s that looked like something we may really enjoy.

We re looking for a park with a mountainous view, lush, green, quiet, water/electric, showers and flush toilets, pop up and pet friendly, and good hiking and fishing.

 Any advice would be appreciated.

 So far I have found:

 Lathrop
 Crawford
 Ridgway
 Steamboat Lake

At this point in time we re also open to privately owned campgrounds, tho , I m thinking that the State Parks will offer us more of what we re looking for.

JemJen24What part of Colorado are you considering visiting? I picked up a great book last year called " Camping in Colorado - The 100 Best and all the Rest"  - or something like that. It gives great rundowns on MANY Colorado camping areas in terms of what s best for scenery, RV s, tent camping, etc. It doesn t go into the ratings to the level of a Trailer Life Directory, but is really good for picking the state and national park sites.

I m not sure it covers any of the private RV sites at all, but it at least gives you a VERY good idea on the area. they have it at Borders and barnes & Noble, so it s worth the trip to get a " Frap"  and check it out, along with all the other directories.

 Good Luck!!

JemJen24We are camping in Colorado for the next 2 weeks starting in 3 days and 12 hours, but who s counting?

We found that the majority of the state parks have only 1 amenity...unbelievable views and fabulous sites.  Most have no water, electric, showers, etc.  The private CGs are mostly resort oriented and have all the amenities, minus the views and privacy.

We ll be in Estes Park at 2 private CGs for a week and will visit the RMNP for day trips (did you see that 2 guys were mauled by a bear on Monday in RMNP outback?).

The next week we ll be in Colo Spgs area and again will stay in a private CG and visit the parks for the day.  With a 16 yo and 14 yo boys, hard to get along without water AND electric for 2 weeks!

Good luck with your search.  Try to look up " conductor"  either on this board (I forget) or irv2. as he is an expert on Colo and welcomes queries...

JemJen24Ridgway s got everything.  There are campgrounds above the dam on the lake, and below the dam on the river.   We stayed below the dam last summer, full hookups.
