Some of you may remember me mentioning our loyal and dedicated camping buddy, Ole Sparky.    Last spring he became sick, and I was thinking that we might lose him.  Well, he recovered, somewhat, but never completely, and today was the day that he walked on, and I know that he is in that perpetual campground, where there are lots of rabbits and squirrels to chase (but never catch) hot dogs roasted over the fire to chomp down and clear cool ponds to jump into.
Sparky was a retriever/lab mix, brindle in color and had to be the most mellow and gentle dog ever.   We had him for almost 14 years, and he was like one of my children.     He got his name the weekend we first got him, at six weeks of age when we took him on his first camping trip.  He was to be my DS s dog, and followed every move Ricky made.    DS got up from the stump by the fire to go and get some marshmallows, and the new puppy literally ran thru the fire to catch up with him, and when he ran out on the other side there were sparks flying from his fur.    He loved camping, and knew the way to our place up north, and would start getting all excited as soon as we turned on to the power line road.   Our home and camper will be very quiet and sober without him for a long time, and we ll miss him, but I know that he was in pain, and frightened, and now he isn t any more.

wiininkweToni, I am truly sorry for the passing of your beloved pet. I know exactly how you feel. We open our heart to a simple creature, and receive so much in return from them. In short-- everything they have.

Never fear, my two camping buddy Akitas, Yoshi and Kiko, were waiting at the gate with a nice bone for Ole Sparky. They ll keep each other occupied until we join them.

 Again, my condolences. Take care...

 wiininkweToni,

With tears in my eyes, I offer my condolences as well.

I ve been with several of my " best friends"  who have passed to doggie heaven.

If I were to lose my current " girl friend" , it would nearly rip my heart out.  She found me when she was a small pup and has been constantly with me ever since.  If I move she is there;  when I sleep, she sleeps with me and I dare not mention the words ride or vacation (camping).  Soooo what I m saying is I know how you must feel with your loss of " Ole Sparky"

Just know that there are others who send you their comfort and share your sorrow.

 Take care.

 wiininkwewiininkwe,

Sorry to hear about your lost. I have had more than I would like to say. Things will pass and he will always be a part of your life. Besides, you can meet him when you go to RainBow Bridge. There is an Indian legend which says when a human dies there is a bridge they must cross to enter into heaven. At the head of that bridge waits every animal that human encountered during their lifetime. The animals, based upon what they know of this person, decide which humans may cross the bridge... and which are turned away...

When your doing better, and I know you can t think about it now, get another, and some of your pain will melt away.

wiininkweWe re so sorry to hear about your loss.  A pet is oh so much more then that..they are actual members of the family, and it hurts just as much.

wiininkweWhat wonderful memories you  and your son will always have of him.  Our camper cat Opie is getting old and grey but he still loves camping.  It will be hard to adjust to going without him when he makes that last trip by himself.

wiininkweI am sorry to hear about the loss of such a fine companion.

During my growing years, I had two dogs.  I treasure the fond memories of each of them, one gone for nearly 30 years, the other about 20.  And despite her faults, I know I will miss the nervous worry-wort of a dog we have now.

I am sure that when the time comes, you will find another pet, perhaps even a dog, that will bring his/her own personality into the campsite.

 Thinking of you,

 Austin & PJay

wiininkweToni, that is truly sad.  To loose a canine member of the family is a terrible lose.  Thinking of you,

 wiininkweToni,

Just read your post about Sparky.......I m so sorry for your loss.... I ve lost too many and know how deeply the emptiness can be. Sometimes I swear that I can feel some of mine at our feet even though they crossed over the bridge years ago.

I will give my dogs an extra hug for your Sparky.

 wiininkweToni,

I am sorry to hear about Sparky.  It sounds like he had wonderful, loving home.

Loosing a pet is so much like loosing a child.  They become so much a member of your family.  I have lost 3 dogs in my lifetime and I will never forget any of them. Each time I ve lost one, I ve said to myself, I will never get another.....the hurt is just to hard to bear.  It is so hard to love something that you know will most likely not live as long as you.

The hurt and pain is always strong at first, but time will heal and soon you will have wonderful memories.  There is no greater gift that can be given than good memories.

You are in my thoughts.....God bless

 Carol
