A few weeks ago we toured the Jayco factory. They were building the Jayco Qwest Baja on one line. It really looked awesome to me. Does anyone own one? My wife and I talked to one of the men building the Baja and he seemed to be very proud of what they were building. It has a generator and battery up front outside the pop up. Big 15 inch tires.  I think the 8 foot box model cost about $8500.00.

hbfc6All of the manufacturers are jumping into the " off road style"  pop up arena.  I must say that I don t think with the construction methods most of them use these units will hold up well in a true off road situation.

But with that said, for folks like us that like doing [link=http://www.title-3.com/DryCamping.htm]dry camping (dispersed camping) in the National Forest[/link] they would be great for the additional clearance they provide.

I m still thinking about the " Dexter axle flip"  modification and possibility adding the newer heavy duty springs Coleman is now using.

For a true off road pop up you have to go with one of the foreign models like the [link=http://www.kamparoo.com/]kamparoo[/link].  Those bad boys are really heavy duty.

I thought it was neat seeing one in North Carolina being towed by a motorcycle!

hbfc6I stopped by the Jayco dealer the other day to look at one. I thought they were pretty nice. I loved the 15"  wheels and the diamond plating. The salesman told me it was a 10  box, I said I thought it was 8 .  I didn t argue with him.

He also told me that with the genset (Onan 2800 + 5 gal external fuel tank), furnace, 3-way fridge, etc. it was around $12K...Ouch!!!

hbfc6I borrowed a Jayco BAJA, towed it over 600 miles and camped in it for 4 nights, here are my comments:
 Likes-
-1 of 2 best towing trailers I ve ever pulled
-Liked the 10  box and high clearence; no worries about hitting bottom since it s got a higher clearence than my Jeep.
-Really liked the look,  fiery graphics, big wheels, diamond plating
 -Liked the floorplan & decor
-Really like the front deck, they have a front trunk/toolbox model too.
 -Nice interior
 -Jayco quality

 Not crazy about-
 -Needs a 3rd step  -  it s a long way down.
-Unless you re 6 6"  it needs a better way to cover the lift arms when setup.

Once you re setup it s like being inside any other camper, I think a more rustic interior would make it the best camper out there.
I m considering a BAJA for my next camper.
