Does anyone else have a problem with their outside high pressure stove falling off the rail if it is slightly bumped? Mine has fallen on at least three out of four trips we ve made now and I m tired of coming home with huge scrapes and bruises on the tops of both knees from this thing!  This week it made a ding on my camper and it won t heal like my knees will...  [:(]  Luckily it hasn t has anything it each time it has fallen. It just doesn t seem like a very sturdy arrangement just sitting inside that little rail on the side...has anyone on here done any sort of mod to make this thing sturdier??? I m really getting afraid to use this stove and am planning on taking my old Coleman camping stove instead!

vjm1639OUrs has not fallen off =- but the back splash/windguard protector rotted right off the fiberboard it was screwed into - the stove that we have also sits on a rail but has a fin underneath to keep it mounted upright - I too have noticed that it is starting to lean down abit - I beleive it has more to do with the wood that it s mounted on.
A while back - there were some modifications made to this stove - a clever PUT member re-mounted his stove onto a larger and more sturdy countertop.  I believe it was a year or two ago that I saw his mods on PUT - I wish I could remember who it was - I d love to take another look at how he did it.

I believe that is the best answer - if you contact Coleman and let them know perhaps they will be able to take a look at it and figure out what it needs.

vjm1639Thanks Popupnut...ours is a new camper and the whole thing is metal...no fiberboard on this one...it does have the fin that supports it...sort of... <G>

Just wondered if it was just my normal klutziness....   but that darn thing HURTS when it falls!  [:D]

vjm1639Actually I have found that you have to get it mounted " just right"  on the rail or it does not hold.

While mine has not fallen, it has been hanging on by a thread.  When setting up I find it locks in completely if I raise the front almost to the verticla position to get the two halves to lock together.   After I mount it I hold the front edge and push down a little to make sure it is locked in.

vjm1639???  How does it " lock together" ?   I m now wondering if our salesperson showed us the correct way to mount the thing.....the way he showed us, the mount on the camper is sort of a U shape with the top being slightly curved and the bottom being fairly straight...he told us to put the top rail of the stove, inside the two rails  (in the middle of them...NOT to slide it over the top rail) and then prop it on the side of the camper.  No matter what I do I can t make it feel " sturdy" .  Does this sound right??

vjm1639When you hang your outside stove, lift the front about 45 degrees, then the top of the stove rail goes over ther top of the bracket. Bring it to level, and set the wing in place. Now it shouldn t fall. Nothing goes in between the mounting screwed to the trailer.

Well DANGIT...that s exactly where the salesman showed us to put it...not once, but twice!  I asked abut it when he showed it to us the first time, and he did it again and then had me do it!  I thought it didn t look right..  Now I m gonna have to go to the lot where we store it and see if that works better!!!  If so...I m going back, show him my purple bruised and gouged knees (ouch...for the third time...) and whine about the gouge in my camper too!

vjm1639Our outside stove would not mount properly when we got our pu (brand new). The dealer replaced the mounting bracket and that took care of it. Don t know why the original bracket would not work. The service tech could not get the stove to mount on it either. Have your dealer check it out and maybe he will replace yours.

vjm1639hmm...now that s a thought...we ll go to our storage lot this weekend and play with it and see if we can get it to fit any better. If not, a trip back to the dealers may be the ticket.  Can t camp this weekend. My DS will be packing and heading back to college.
