Howdy gang I can t figure how to drain my h/w htr[:@].  The manual is very poor and the dealer, well we won t go there[>:].  Any way I have an Atwood h/w htr and it does not have drain lines as the Coleman line does, so there are no blue & red colored lines of any type.
I know that if I leave the pump switch on and have no wtr in the holding tank and open the hot wtr valve the pump will pump some of the wtr out of the hot wtr tank.  So I was wondering from possible Jayco owners or those that have no quick drains how to drain the hot wtr tank.  Last night I had to pull out the white plastic drain plug (it s about 22mm across the flats) to drain the htr but there s gotta be an easier way.  Also where is the anode rod?  when I pulled out the plastic plug nothing came out with it & I used the relief valve to allow air to drain the tank.
Any assistance would be most appreciated [:D].

PopupSgtOn our 12UDK in the cabinet with the water tank and pump are 3 small black T handles. These pull straight up; you should feel a small " pop" . The one by the tank drains it (you can see where the hose goes). The one by the pump drains the cold (again you can see the " T"  in the hose coming from the pump). The third is by it s self where the hose enters the cabinet near the water heater. I m sure that you 14  is laid out different than our 12 , but maybe this can help. If they start to leak, there is a small metal clip that you take out to pull up the plunger. Then you can just replace the " O"  rings, not the whole valve.

PopupSgtI know someone [:D] that has a 14  Jayco.
And last year they asked me where to drain the HWH.
We looked all over, and the HWH is completely built into a cabinet.
We couldn t find any way to look at it from the inside, without taking the cabinet apart?  So I think your stuck doing the plastic plug from the outside?

Unless you want to tear the cabinet apart and add a valve someplace.

PopupSgtCorey send an email to Jayco and ask them.  They will know if there is another way.

PopupSgtIn my outside access to the water heater there is a drain plug on the water heater. Unscrew it to drain the tank.

PopupSgtMy 97  1207 is the same thing.  I found out the hard way this spring that I didn t drain it properly(I bought it used last year) when I split 2 hoses over the winter.  As I was setting for our first trip back in June, I was testing the water at home and kablooey, I flooded the floor in the PUT and spent the next 6 hours replacing the stinking thing.  Ahhh, lessons learned the hard way.  [:o]

PopupSgtOn my heritage, I replaced the plastic plug with a CPVC threaded to socket union and ball valve purchased from Lowes.  Just make sure you use the beige colored CPVC for hot and cold water use.  Measure the pipe that joins the threaded to socket union to the ball valve carefully before gluing to make sure the door will still close.  Wrap threads liberally with thread tape and install threaded union. Glue short CPVC pipe in ball valve.  Orient ball valve assembly to allow operation of ball valve handle and glue into union.  Just open the ball valve when you want to drain the tank.

PopupSgtthat s a great idea, I will stop at Lowe s or Home Depot to conduct this easy alteration.
