Just returned from my local WallyWorld where I purchased a Haier 1.8 cubic foot capacity compact fridge with slide out shelf, freezer compartment and ice cube try, also 2 liter bottle storage space in the door.  It was $64.73.   Check your WalMart ads.
This should fit into the little cubby hole under our sink and stove where a large cooler is suppose to sit, giving us a much better option for eggs, cheese, butter, and all those little things that get yukky in a cooler.   (If it doesn t fit, we ll just set it on a table or something, no biggie.)

wiininkweOh Toni, I wish I knew you wanted one of these.  I was at Home Depot last saturday getting my tile for the PU and they had the fridge on sale for $49.00.  I wanted to pick one up but with all the other stuff I had gotten, I couldn t get it in the car.  I wish I had gone back.[:(]  I think it was a Magic Chef.  They also have little PU size microwaves for $44.99.

wiininkweHow nice of you, thank you for the thought, but not to worry, it s still a good deal.   But that would have been a good excuse to get together and meet and visit.   WalMart also has the little microwaves on sale as well, I think for $29.87.   I have to admit that i haven t measured, just bought on impulse, and haven t even taken it out of the box yet, so I don t know how close it will come to sliding into the space provided, but as I said earlier, it s no biggie.

wiininkweOur Walmart and also CVS (drug store) has the microwaves for $27 and $29.  Almost too good to pass up...but...I rarely use the microwave in the house..I don t think I d EVER use it in the PU!

wiininkweWouldn t ya know it, the fridge is 3/4 of an inch too wide to fit into the little cubby hole.   Well, as I said, it s not a big problem, we can set it on the little counter just inside the door, or on a table in the AAR, or we can put it on the gaucho couch (without the pillows) where we sometimes set the two stacking sterlite shelves and drawers.

Can you trim the edges of the hole to open it up another 3/4" ?  Thats really not a lot of wood to remove.

wiininkwe

wiininkweIt s not just the edges, it s the width of the whole hole (haha).   I was thinking the same thing, and was laying on the floor yesterday with my head in there trying to decide if there would be a way to widen it.  It s just veneer, and anything done to enlarge it would rip the whole hole apart.   DH thinks that I m losing it sometimes when he walks into the camper to find me investigating something because I have a tentative plan in mind.   You know how it is with these things, you have to stand on your head in a corner to see anything.

OK, if it is just paneling (veneer) it will be a piece of cake.

Decide if you want to take the 3/4"  off one side or split it between both.  One side would be half the work, but either will be fine.

Get some makking tape at lease 2"  wide and put a strip of it over the area to be removed, with the center of the tape along the cut line.  Use a straight edge to mark the cut line.

Now, it will be easier to cut if you have a metal straight edge the length of the cut, but you can do it free hand.  With a razor knife with a new bladebegin your cut.  Don ttry to push all the way through, just score a line.  Now keep cutting on that line over and over.  After a few passes you will have a nice clean cut.

Resist breaking it off after you have cut a while.  Take your time and cut over and over.

 Now your refrigerator will fit!

wiininkweOOOOh, a great suggestion.  Let me go out and stick my head in there again and see how it will work.  (not that I don t believe you, just one of those people who has to see for myself).   Thanks for the idea.

Oh btw, the large cooler that came with the camper and normally sets in that space has a new use, too.  I have a large dish drainer that fits right into the cooler.  I load it with the dishes that we normally use, and a few other of the frequently used items.   When we get to our campsite, I pull the whole cooler out, lift out the dish drainer full of dishes.  In the cooler we put little things that we won t be using again til it s time to leave.  I then use the cooler as a stand next to the outdoor stove, for the water jug or whatever.  I keep the drainer full of dishes on the table, and when I wash dirty dishes they go right back into the drainer and are ready to use again.
