This is probably the most exciting time of the year for most campers, I know it is for me. Cooler temps are in the air making way for some really nice nights sitting around the campfire with family and friends enjoying each others company. This is the time of year I look forward to all year. Man oh man I can hardly contain myself thinking of all the fun we will have this fall. What are some of the things you re looking forward to while camping this fall. For me, I just feel better physically this time of the year and enjoy spending time in the woods getting away from it all. The skies are clearer at night allowing those of us that enjoy star gazing a better view of the heavens. Coffee taste better on a cool, crisp morning and breafast cooked over an open fire smells and taste better as well. The birds seem to churp more and the wildlife becomes more active as they prepare for winter. Fall also allows us to hear the natural sounds of the outdoors at night better because people no longer have the need to run air conditioners in order to sleep comfortably. For us campers the fall is the time when we say, " It doesn t get any better than this."  So get fired up with me and let us know your plans and what you re looking forward to this upcoming fall camping season.

 CC,
You took the words right out of my mouth, especially the above[:)].  Can t believe your not reading my mind!  Guess it s because we ve both been trying to hide from the heat and humidity for waaaaay too long[:@]!
Not getting out today and tomorow but if the temps keep dropping, we ll get out next week.  Going to try and take 3 rather then 2 days and either go to Meridean or Purtis Creek State Park.  If we can only get away for the 2, we ll probably go to Mineral Wells or Cleburne State Park.  Any will do as long as I can go camping!

 CajunCamperI am excited!

We are T minus 10 days from our departure for British Columbia.  The tent trailer is popped up on it new trailer pad, and I m already moving us in for the trip.

Our first stop is a friend s farm in Colusa county for their annual Crawdad Fest. They harvest hundreds of crawdads from the drained rice fields and have a big party every year towards the end of September.

From there, we re heading north to Crater Lake for a few days, then on to the Columbia River gorge and visits with friends and family in the Portland area. Then on to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, ferry the tent trailer across to Victoria, spend about a week on the Island, ferry across to Vancouver, spend about a week there, spend some time with friends in Seattle, and then shoot on back home.

If anyone has any campground recommendations along our path, I d appreciate them.

CajunCamperI d love to be camping right now, but with DH still out of work and funds are going fast, camping will be very limited.

If he gets a job soon -- look out CG s here we come[;)]

CajunCamperI have to agree!!   I enjoyed all our summer trips but there is just something so special about Fall camping.  Last weekend was just simply fantastic. It was a last minute trip for us (we had just come back from a trip on Tuesday and left again on Friday). We heard the cooler weather report and after all the rain, heat, and humidity we just took off for the Shenandoah mountains!  It was gorgeous!! Finally cool enough for a real campfire that we could sit close to.  We actually had to throw a couple more blankets on the bed.  The deer were out (of course, they always are there) we saw a garter snake right up from our campsite sunning itself, we saw two small black bear cubs at different spots on the parkway.  Never did see the momma bear even with stupid people getting out of their cars to take pictures, there were butterflies everywhere.  The sky was a gorgeous blue with little wispy white clouds. Gorgeous sunsets and stars, stars, stars..... Ahhhhh...I love Fall!!!!  Camping is all I think about this time of year.

CajunCamperI love fall camping unfortunately with 3 kids and soccer, band and cheerleading we have 4-5 events every weekend until Thanksgiving so it won t happen this year.

 CajunCamperCajun,
You pretty much summed up Fall camping.Camping amoung the leaves Changing colors is camping at it s finest. Our biggest hope is to not only catch the leaves in full color, but also catch that elusive Aurora color show in the sky.

CajunCamperI am going to go to two Purdue games September 20 and October 4 and will camp down there for the weekends.

CajunCamperWe only have one more trip planned this fall.[&:]  We are going to be taking a two week vacation with DH (the non-camper) and that means no more camping.  Unless we just have to go out one more time in November.[:D]

Gone-Camping

CajunCamperWell, I still have 2 trips on the schedule, including some kind of run to the mountains Columbus Day Weekend (and still leaning towards Goose Point Park, but have friends that could sway that decision). Also going in November back to Ocean Waves on Cape Hatteras. As for September, I wanted to go out next weekend (19th/20th) somewhere, possibly Pocahontas SP outside of Richmond. I ve still got an eyeball on the Westmoreland get together, but it s still the wrong weekend for me...who knows.

But you echo my thoughts on camping in the fall. This is the season I look forward to, and since I only get one weeks paid vacation per year (yep, cheap employer) I always take it in October!!! Nights are cool, crisp, and clear... great for sleeping, campfires, and as mentioned Star Gazing!

 CajunCamperHi CajunCamper,

I definitely agree with your wonderful post. This is the best time to camp. In fact we re getting ready to leave next Monday for a week at Daingerfield, in east Texas. Monday night the low is supposed to be in the upper 50 s, and highs during the day in the lower 80 s. Perfect weather for a good cup of coffee in the cool of the morning, and then late in the evening, sitting around a roaring campfire.

DW and I love this time of the year. It is the best time for camping.

CajunCamperCajunCamper you are right on!  We are going out this weekend and hoping it will be the first of several outings between now and Nov. 1.  Crispt morning air, hot coffee and Fall smells in the woods...oh yeah!

CajunCamperThis is our favorite time to camp too.  The campgrounds have cleared out and life is good [:D] Actually we are camping right now, just stopped in to pick up a few things we forgot. We are camping at Sugar Pine State Park, which just happens to be 25 minutes from our house. [8D] the campround is 1/4 full, the weather is beautiful, wish you were here....
