When we were preparing for the storm we decided to put the breathable cover over it very snuggly.  The Yakima racks seemed to lift the cover from the front to protect from debris but we were worried about the back.  The big issue was the posssible hail and flying debris that might land on top.  We purchased a large sheet of styrafoam from Home Depot, the kind that goes under siding and placed it under the cover to the rear and around the A/C.

Although the winds got really bad, [:o]the board stayed in place, although, the board not the roof received several direct hits from branches.  [:@]It was probably mostly luck, but I would do it again for the short period of time of the hurricane.  We never use the cover but it was great on this occasion!![:)] The next day when we pulled off the cover everything was fine except for the dented styrafoam board.  Good investment![;)]  Bringing it inside would have been better but we don t have that option.

 jstaddwtrThanks!

I would recommend it for others where it has to stay out and you need to provide some protection for a day or two, at most.  I did not want to find out how well the new  03 roofs lasted after getting bonked from hail.  That was the first question I ahd for the dealer when they changed out the cracked  02.
