Pilot light

The problem on our camper is actually this...

We have the Dometic refrigerator, We have used it only twice on propane, and it did work.

This time, I tried to light it with the pushbutton igniter but the pilot will not catch.  I can hear propane coming out for the element and can even light it.  However, the pilot will not light.

I assume that I have a blocked pilot line, or the automatic shutoff mechanism is in some way defective.  I am relatively handy, but cannot remove the shroud that covers the pilot light assembly to clean it.

Anyone ever perform a cleaning on a dometic unit?  Any help would be great - I'd rather not pay my dealer to fix it if possible.

I would not be quick to take things apart  After two years. I have never had a problem with mine

But, sometimes i do have to hold it in the "prime"position for over a minute to allow LP Gas to begin to flow.  This is especially true when i have recently changed the LP Gas tank.

Is your igniter giving a spark?  If the electrodes get separated it will not spark until it is readjusted.

I have had this problem before, got some advice from this forum, and it fixed my problem forever.

The problem is that after you turn the propane tank valve off to store or move your popup, the lines get air in them.  I have found that if I start my stove and leave it on until it burns evenly around the entire burner for a minute or two before starting the hotwater heater or the fridge, everything works great.

BTW: My fridge is on the low pressure side of my propane system and the water heater is on the high pressure side, so I have to start both my inside and outside stove for best results.

Hope this helps.
