After DW and I purchase our popup we will need to insure it.  Is it a matter of calling my State Farm agent and adding to auto or home owners insurance?  At the RV show in Hartford, CT a couple of weekends ago I noticed an insurance agent who specialized in RV insurance.  Will I need to seek out such an Agent for a popup?

RamblingWreckInsurance is different in every state and province and you should only take advice on coverage from a licensed professional in your local area. No two individual cases are alike and therefore should not be compared to each other. If your state licenses independent brokers, I would suggest speaking to one of them as they are not employed by any insurance company and usually have the broadest range of experience. Do not avoid this issue, while your auto policy MAY cover the trailer while towing, any damage to the camper, theft from the camper or injuries to persons visiting the camper may not be covered. We have our auto and homeowners insurance with the same company, so adding coverage for the camper was easy and relatively inexpensive.

With all of that sadi, your State farm agent should be able to take care of you.

That s what I did, called him, told him I was buying a camper.
 When?
 Tommorrow.
 OK I ll add it.

Had to take it by, he checked the numbers and I was all set. It s got it s own policy, but I pay it along with everything else.

RamblingWreckI have two autos insured with State Farm and my home with Germania (a Texas company) because State Farm is not now insuring homes in Texas.  Anyway, I got quotes from Germania and a couple of other companies who said they specialized in RV insurance as well as from State Farm.  State Farm had by far the best rate.  Germania and the others agreed they couldn t meet their rates since I had two cars insured with State Farm.  Reason:  Most of insurance you need on your trailer is already covered on your auto insurance so all they have to add is coverage to replace  or repair your trailer - not the liability, etc., which the other companies will charge you for - at least that s the way it was explained to me.  So...shop around...but I suspect you will get the best deal from State Farm since you have your car with them.

Just my humble opinion, which you are welcome to free of charge[:)]

RamblingWreckOur PU is insured with our auto insurance Co. - AAA.
Started at $13.00 per month.  When I sent in a picture of the PU with the Fulton Boot/Trailer Keeper secured to a tire they dropped it $2.50/month to $10.50 per month!  The savings will pay for the boot ($56.00 total) in 23 months.

RamblingWreckWe also called our homeowner s agent and he assured us that the contents of the PU are covered by our homeowner  policy.

RamblingWreckRaymond is over 50, so we have been AAPR members for over 15 years and use their insurance.
We have the homeowners, 2 full coverage vehicles and 2 with liability, then we added the camper for $89.00/year, the liability is covered by the truck s liability.

AARP s insurance is through ITT Hartford. They have been wonderful.

RamblingWreckRamblingWreck we are on State Farm and here in Ohio we pay $80 dollars a year on the PU.

RamblingWreckAll we did was call State Farm and gave them the info over the phone.  I m pretty sure we pay about $90 for the year (Maryland).  Our truck, car and home are with them as well.

Bearnkat

RamblingWreckHere in Texas, we have State Farm for our home owners and all vehicles including our popup. We have our popup on a separate policy for approximately $150.00 a year.

 RamblingWreckRambling,

If the company you are talking about is Borden (Westboro, MA), they represent the Foremost insurance company. He is usually set up at all of the shows in the Mass area. They charge $275 for 3 yrs coverage which was less than my regular (home) ins co was charging me. I spoke to them recently and will be sending him a check this week. All they do is RV insurance, the phone # is 800-446-9699. Good Luck!

RamblingWreckWe also use Foremost. $100/year gives us 100% coverage on the trailer (whether it is or is not coupled to the tow vehicle). That s probably the one question no one asks their friendly insurance agent. " If my trailer is setup in a campsite, uncoupled from the tow truck, and a tree falls on it, am I covered?"  With Foremost, you can obtain up to 100% of what you paid, (on a new trailer), for the first 5 years. On typical car policy add-ons, you aren t covered because the trailer " wasn t connected to the vehicle which is insured" !

Your " stolen property"  is only covered to a small% of the value of the trailer. But, your homeowner or apartment policy automatically covers the remainder of the value (and you don t need to pay any additional amount for that coverage).

It s best to deal with an agent or company which specializes in RV insurance. There are plenty of clauses contained in car & home policies, to help the companies NOT pay you when something happens.

NCSunshine

RamblingWreckWe have our Niagara insured thru Foremost also, more reasonable than Nationwide could insure it for.  Can t remember the exact price, but it was less than $100 a year.[:)]
