Handy tip for keeping warm

We have a set of solar bunk end covers that are a life saver during the heat of summer.  We have now discovered that turning them upside down (green side up) in the winter helps keep heat from escaping throught the top of the tenting.  Very handy when the weather is cold!

Good tip.  Here is another for very cold or very windy nights.

When we go to bed, we take our cushions and line them up between the mattress and the tenting.  It really helps control the loss of heat right there next to our bodies.

You can put a layer of "reflectix" UNDER the mattress as well and this will save another 20 degrees.

We've done that too, with the cushions, and it works.  Just watch that you don't push them down so far as to cause a gap at another spot between the canvas and the frame.  It also helps if you're camping in really cold weather, to cut hard styrofoam insulation to fit the bunk ends, and slide it inside against the walls of the canvas.   We do that, and it helps keep the canvas more stable against the wind too.   Someone else here o the board suggested it, and we tried it and are very happy with the results.   Last year we camped in temps down to 9 F, with wind.   Of course, it wasn't 'warm' like in your home, but it kept the worst of the chill to a manageable level.   The heat from the furnace was much more efficient.   Now, if only we could figure out a way to get the thermostat set in a more convenient place.

We stuff our beach towels around the mattress when it gets cold out.  The beach bag lives in the PU most of the year. :)

I met a guy at a CG a few years back that made an extension wire for his thermostat.  He set it up so that the thermostat hung from the valance/curtain rod to the left of the door. He said that it worked great and that he no longer got blasted out before the furnace shut off.

The other mod he had was a toggle switch wired to teh hot lead to his CO detector.  He could then turn it off when the trailer was stowed and not have to disconnect the battery cable.

That's a great idea, I'll have to show this post to DH.   I just hate it when we are camping in the cold, and the furnace runs forever, using up lots of extra propane, and your head is hot, and your feet are freezing.   There is no way you can expect the warm air from the furnace to find it's way easily down to the floor, under the table and to the sensors that are mounted on the inside of the bench seat.  (we do have a very small battery operated fan, and it does help somewhat, but again, why should we have to keep spending money on hundreds of small items to make the camper features work properly)   Maybe that was the only "safe" place to put it or something, but it's ridiculous.   And I hate having to lay on the floor, with a flashlight, with my head under the table to try to see and adjust the settings.  And there is no other way to do it, that I can figure out.    With my knees, getting up and down is a real problem, not to mention the indignity of the position.
