I recieved a model rocket kit for Christmas & it has been alot of fun.  I used to build & fly rockets when I was a kid, and after watching a show on model rockets on the Discovery Channel with my son, I though we would enjoy them again.

I took both my 5yr old son & 2yr old daughter out on a beautiful Saturday after work & we flew our 2 rockets.  We did 7 flights & had a great time.  I would recommend this activity for any family.  As long as the basic rules are followed, it is safe. Just be sure to find a large enough open field to allow the rocket to land!

I am not sure if we will be able to take our rockets camping, but we may find start looking for a campground with open space!

Please let me know if any others enjoy model rockets too.

That sounds like the neatest thing!!  I never thought about them before, but I know the boys would love it!  I bought a model speedboat for DH's birthday last year, and they love bringing it to the lake.  Maybe this summer!

Our Boy Scout troop is going to be doing model rockets this year. :)

Had 7 succesful lauches today.  Weather was perfect.  My son was excitted to share his lauches with his sister & 4 cousins.

If you want to try this, they have nice kits at Wal-Mart.  Ours was less than $20.00 with rocket, launch pad & laucher, 2 engines.  The engines run about $4.75 for a pack of 3.

They also have some rockets on Ebay.

I got addicted to model rockets in 8th grade (~1978).  In shop class, we had to make the rocket tubes with construction paper in a spiral fashion around a dowel until the glue dried.  The nose cone was made from 2 corks glued together, then sanded to shape.  They actually flew quite nicely.  At the end of the class, we were introduced to the Estes kits.  Oh man, that was it.

I have bought numerous Estes Engineering Kits (lots of tubes, cones, and balsa), and many of the various models.  Wild stories, some blew up, some lost, one traveled several miles and found it next to the hwy (still have it).

My oldest son is 4 1/2, and he's "helped" me launch rockets for about the past 6 months.  I'm also into RC boats, planes, and especially trucks.  My boys have the interest, but not the skill yet.  Working on that: http://www.2manytoyz.com/rc.html

What, you didn't think I would be into toys?   :J
