I thought I was all thru with the darned shopping, and was going over my list and realized that 4 gifts that I had ordered online hadn't yet come in.   So, I tracked them.   One gift for DD was supposedly delivered last Thursday, but the address it was delivered to was clearly not the one on the order, and in fact doesn't exist on our street.  And the delivery person (from FedEx) wrote on his log that he "met customer" so whoever he gave this package to had to have known that it wasn't theirs, as our name was on the package as well.   FedEx says it will speak to the driver and try to clear this up, but in the meantime, there is no gift.  (BTW, it was part of an order that included some other items and all were delivered correctly.  This was the biggest and most expensive)   There were also some things I had ordered for DH and DS-I-L from Cabelas.   I had placed a large order with them, and two of the orders arrived, so when I checked on the rest, I was told that the order was never even placed with the manufacturer.   I understand that this is a very busy time and mistakes are bound to happen, but....that doesn't help me now, two days before Christmas.

Not sure of DD's age, but for the others -- print a picture of the item and creatively wrap it with the reason why it's not here yet.  Our one DD is giving her step sister a gift card and instead of just handing it to her, she has put it in the Christmas tin with a lot of confetti, and then in a larger box, then in a gioft bag with a lot of stips of paper around it.  Don't know why it wouldn't work with a picture.

Good luck!

I was done until a friend called and wanted to know when they could drop off a gift for DS.  So today I had to go to the store and buy gifts for both of their kids. :XMas

You are so good...

I have decided I'm not going to do this anymore. I used to run out all the time.  I had a chat with my girls about what to do in this situation we decided if someone we didn't buy for gives us a gift we smile, thank them and say "You are so sweet to have thought of us/me!"  If it's an adult and I am there to recieve the gift, I throw in "I wish we had had more room in our budget to get you something too!"  Then I usually offer them some cider or tea and cookies.
