help with upgrade of drain vent

Now that I have an electric pump for my sink, my current drain vent cannot keep up.  I made one with a y-piece valve & attached a tube to one end to let air in & the second end went to my grey water tank.  The water overflows the hose to the tank & now comes out the vent.

What would be the best design to replace my current vent?

Thanks!

I think the problem you are having is the valve in the Y fitting you are using.
if you look inside the fitting, you will see that the inside diameter goes from 3/4" to 3/8" inside those valved Y fittings.
You need to get a Y fitting, with no valve inside, and full bore diameter, as that is what is causing the restriction on your drain water.

Thanks!, I will go by Lowe's this week & get a Y fitting without a valve.  I am glad I won't have to upgrade to a larger drain.  The y fitting I have is easy to store in my water hose bag.

I tried to make one like the one in the PUT article a couple issues back, but couldn't find all the right PVC parts at any of our local hardware stores. We finally found a threaded T fitting that fit the connection on the PU, and the other two ends of the T (the vent and drain ends) had the push-on (somebody help me with the technical terminology) type fittings for a clear vinyl flexible hose, which we bought at the same time. Works fine for us. It's also easier to tell if the hose is clean and dry.

If you can't find one at Lowe's, go to ACE. I looked at Lowe's and Home Depot and could not find the right kind. ACE had plenty of them.

My drain vent (which goes to the level of the sink) can handle any volume of water, even pouring a pot full of water down it.

Larry mentioned one important item when making a drain vent. You want the vent tube to be higher than the level of the water in the sink. That way the water can't back up the drain vent and overflow.
One reason why drain vents on your house usually go out through the roof.

I fixed my drain vent with a solution suggested by 6Quigs.  Thanks for the great help.  The brass T-piece was around $3.00 at Lowes.  I was able to use the clear hose I had with my previous vent to allow air to open the vacuum.  I have a picture at http://community.webshots.com/user/kaaljonesfamily
