If you use a drill to pop up a Coleman/Fleetwood PU.  Did you replace a pin(s) in your lift system.  I remember an old post that said you should replace a rolled pin in the lift system if you are going to use a drill to popup the PU.  Has anyone replace the pin(s) and if you did how hard is it?

Well, I never did... I suppose if you crank it too far it's very possible to shear a roll pin, and then you'd have to replace it!

I didn't.  Don't see a reason to... yet.  I don't hammer the stop.

I bumped the trigger on my corded drill when I get near the top.  My drill has so much torque, it won't stop when the trigger is pulled.  Something will break, or I will go for a ride.  That's why I'm so careful!

Someone being cautious, or is there a known issue?

I haven't replaced anything, just go slow when you see the tenting start to get snug. You'll be able to tell how far you still have to go. Then just "feather" the drill.

Thanks for your advice. :)

I would assume the rolled pin is that one that the notches on the crank fit round.  I could see that one being torn apart.  If that indeed is the one, it would be a simple drill out.

If it's a rolled pin, don't drill it out, drive it out.  Otherwise, the replacement pin won't fit in the oversized hole.  The pin is rolled for strength and to hold itself tight.

Probably wouldn't hurt to keep the right size punch and a couple of extra pins in your camping kit (you do have one, don't you?).

The pin isn't the one the crank handle goes on, it is the main pin in the lift system.

When I had the Coleman Utah I used a Craftsman 24V cordless to raise the roof, stabilizers, BAL Leveler, etc., and never changed anything in the lift system, nor have I heard of anyone else doing so.  Never had a problem.

The "pin thing" everyone's talking about was back with the hydraulic power lift system. A shear pin had to be replaced by a roll pin. The power system would buildup pressure when something would bind and pop the shear pin and then nothing would go up or down; power or manual.
I can remember one PU with the power lift system and you'd have to shake he roof as it went up so nothing bound up as the pump just kept on pumping and either the roof went up or something broke.
Can you tell why they don't use that system anymore?
