Got a stubborn 2x4?  Feel like assembling a house from 100 yards away?  This is the tool for you...

Let me guess. You are the proud owner of a new one.  It's a Dewalt, too.  I know one of the guys on the racing team and he has Dewalt stuff all over the house  He has a motor home to stay in when he's traveling around to the races.  If you aren't careful someone will rename you to 2manytoolz.:D

Okay, okay, you got me.  That's my other nickname.  Yes I bought a few Dewalt goodies over the Christmas holidays.  Just a 18V drill/circular saw combo and the boombox/charger.  I had to do it.  My poor Makita, Porter Cable, Ryobi, and Craftsman tools lacked any bright yellow on their cases.  My shop was a filled with the bland colors of all the other brands.   :D

A few pictures of my shop in action: http://www.2manytoyz.com/shop.html

I'm a certified tool junkie.  It's bad when they know you by name when you go into a tool store.

On another tangent...

Our fellow camping buddy Darren, shown on my Long Key camping pages, is also a tool collector.  He's a contractor door installer for Lowes Home Improvement stores.  Dewalt had a cordless drill challenge.  The user had to drive the maximum number of screws into a piece a wood in a set period, using their drills.  Darren won the S.E. district competion, and won a new Chevrolet Van!

Hey, think I make this stuff up???

Here he is, winning the van:  http://www.dewalt.com/us/articles/article_events.asp?Site=events&ID=754

Here his is taking a week off:

I'm not the only tool nut ya know.  Life is much weirder than fiction, eh?

"Why, say there Cletus, whar'd you get dat der trophy buck at, anyways?

"Why, Clem, I nailed dat ol' boy out on dah Interstate!"

Hehehehe...I WANT one of those! As a card-carrying, certified tool junkie, I think EVERY shop should have a nail gun that can shoot the center out of a dry pine knot at 50 yards. Perfect for shop defense, also.

'course, that 'un should only be used to slow 'em down. You'd wanna use a *finish* nailer for the coup de grace.

;)

And don't feel too bad.... my shop is dirtier than yours.

Dirty shop? Me?  Hey, there was creations being built at the time.  It's spotless the rest of the time, trust me.

I finally uploaded pictures of the finished playtable I made for our boys.  It has a solid oak frame, and a laminated 3/4" plywood deck.  Our yard apes have been using it for months and it still looks new.

Gee, I would clean my shop this weekend, but I have to go camping instead.   :D

I've got one of those nailers but I couldn't find the DeWalt brand.  :p   For some reason my local homecenter/hardware store doesn't carry them.

Boy, I'll say! Looks like it's getting it's very first play session in those pics. Well done! Clean lines, solid joinery. Kreg jig for the pocket holes? Sure beats choppin lots of motices (mortisi?) for tennons. BTDT, got the seven stiches on one finger from a careless slip with a scary-sharp chisel.

Thanks, and good eye.  Yep, Kreg pocket holes.  That was the first test using that method.  A coworker had been using that for a while and kept talking about it.  They now sell the Kreg kits and supplies at Lowes.  Lots of good demos on the Kreg website showing how to use their system.  I'm still amazed by how strong the joints are.  That table has seen some abuse from my two monkeys.  It gets pulled back and forth across the carpet and the legs remain tight.  The top is also attached with pocket screws so it can be replaced if needed.  I put a lip around the edge of the table so their cars don't roll off unless they are going over 90mph!  I saw a playtable at Toys R Us and didn't like the chipboard construction.  I took ideas from several designs and made my own.  I still have guests over to the house asking "you made this?".  I can build functional, but I can't do artsy.      :)

If I was playing the This Old House drinking game, I'd be half in the bag already after you mentioned mortise and tennons...   :J
