about to attempt to change out the canvass on my 77 jayco eagle. My dad (the unwitting partner in crime) has been talking to a technichan at the local rv dealership. has him fully convinced it will be a four-day horror show, with the odds of the wrong canvass being 90%; But for a little money non the side ($400) he'll be gled to put it up for me. Any stories positive or negative would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

MommaMia

Thanks,

We had a 67 Skamper that we ordered a replacement canvas for from Bear Creek.  It was custom made from a template made from the original canvas so the fit was excellent.  (I felt sooo bad sending the original canvas to them that I wrote an apology for the yucky condition it was in and put it in the box with the canvas.  The original had sat in a field for over 5 years and was so mouse eaten and soaked with urine.  UUUUGGGHHH Big time!)

As per our request, Bear Creek doubled-rolled-stitched the top edge. We placed snaps onto the rolled top edge. It snapped onto the snaps that we measured and spaced around the roofline to match up with the snaps that we placed on the canvas.  We did this so that we could easily remove the canvas when winterizing so we could store it in the house and prevent moisture/mouse damage.  The bottom edge was screwed into position with the metal stripping around the box.  The bunk ends also recieved snap treatments.

It was literally a snap job for us and went on in just over an hour.

BTW... In my book, $400 is NOT a little money!!!

There is a thread running right now on PUX about another person's replacement.

Bear Creek came thru without any problems, delivered a great product, and it was installed in an hour and a half! That works out to about $266/HR. Not bad..

Thanks, but the thread is for a Coleman with a bear Creek canvass. Anyoun have experience with an older jayco (a 10high, eagle or related model)?

Four days and/or $400??? I'll bet once you and your dad get started, it won't take much longer than 4 hours!!!!! Changing the canvas in not that hard of a job!

Here's my take.  You should be able to do it yourself if you are good at figuring out stuff.  Look at how it is put on now and maybe take some close up photos of what you think will be the difficult areas.  When and if you run into a lot of trouble and can't get the job done, then take to the rv dealer to install.  I figure that when you get started, you won't have much trouble.  Keep us posted.

Great!  With the money saved, you can go on several camping trips.  Also, you can show off the camper to others..."Did my own canvas replacement."  Take some before and after pics for proof so it doesn't sound like some fishing stories.  ;)  :)  :D
