I had to install Norton internet security professional ( firewall ) software after resisting it for a long time.

I had a lot of attacks and trojans recently even though I have a hardware firewall/router. I guess it goes with the territory  :) I am too curious looking at this and that to pass time ..... I hope I won't have to reinstall the computer anymore. I did like 15 reinstalls in 5 days to stay clean .... had to delete a few infected stuff ....

Be careful out there

These days I'm running Norton Antivirus (updates daily), Symantec Pest Patrol, and Zone Alarm firewall (freeware).  Some weeks I'll get multiple e-mails containing viruses each day.

I've got 3 computers at home, 2 live on the internet most of the day.  No problems, but I do archive important info and digital images to DVDs in case something does sneak past.  I've been very careful since I'm on a cable modem, which is more likely to get hacked than a dial up.

I had to do a complete system reload once because of a virus.  Since then, I've run this software and have been bug free for quite a while.  I have about 200 GB worth of hard drives on my machine, and much of it is full (digital photos, MP3s, DVD movies).  I shudder to think how long it would take to reinstall all that!

Hopefully now you won't get bit again.

Ah, the joys of technology and learning the importance of backing everything up.  That's what floppies and zip drives are for and also those who have cd or dvd drives know how to back stuff up.  No way could I survive if I lost all my business contacts.  I even have these backed up in a palm pilot, too.

I don't have trouble with hackers or viruses as all is caught with my trusty package.  Leaving yourself open to viruses without the daily updated virus package is what causes quite a few problems in the spread of those viruses.

This happened with the Norton Antivirus 2003 being updated daily ! Ut senaked right past it ! That is what surprised me the most. The unsual disk activity and the excessive network usage were the dead giveaways ! I know my machine and how it behaves :)

I even scanned it with the NAV 2003 but it found nothing ! Sigh ..... Had to delete the suspect file in dos mode before reloading a ghost image ....

Can't be too careful anymore .....
