Anyone try these yet?  They are available at the Sports Authority: http://www.thesportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1737278

Might be a good way to manage our 4 bulky bags.  I'm just concerned that they might not last.  Or worse yet, the camper explode when all 4 of them decide to leak while cruising down the road!      :p

Be careful with those bags as they easily get holes in them, rendering them useless, except for possibly keeping dirt off the sleeping bags. How would I know?

And remember you need a vacuum cleaner, and a fairly powerful one, a dustbuster won't cut it, everytime you want to pack up the bags.

I remember when the space saver bags first came out and folks brought them camping, but forgot that when they went to go home, no vacuum and "just where do we put all this stuff?".

PS: do not use them with down sleeping bags. Leaving a down bag crushed up will damage the down.

I take a vacuum with us anyway, so that's not a problem.  Our sleeping bags use a synthetic filler, which won't crush.  I guess I'll take a look at the bags before buying to see how heavy the material is.  Sleeping bags are just so bulky, whether packing for a trip, or storing them at home.

If I shrink them down, I'll have more room for toys.   :D

I bought a 3 pack of "Coleman" space bags at Wal-Mart in the camping section.  I am using them in my TV to keep the sweat shirts and blankets clean. :)

Got 'em today.  Here's some pics and info about what I've found so far:

We got the Coleman Outlet Store to throw in a couple of them when we bought our Powerchill during the '02 Rally in Townsend.

I found them as I was cleaning the camper last weekend, and we have yet to use them. With the two of us, space isn't horrible, but with 2MTz's pics, I am impressed, and may have to try them out!

I should have bought another box of two bags, for our pillows.  Didn't think of that at the time.  Those should compress really well.

Space wasn't a big issue for us either until we got the boys.  They require a fair amount of support equipment, so space has become a premium.

We were looking into these bags earlier this month for my son's school's Washing DC trip.  They had to pack for 12 days in one suitcase that couldn't weigh over 50 pounds.  Four sweaters take up a lot of room, so I wanted to use the bags for them.  When we looked at them, you could either use a vacuum to totally remove the air, or you could roll them and the air would be compressed out the valve, and then you close the valve so no air can go back in.  That would work for camping situations.

I would have liked for the bags I bought to have either option for evacuating the air, but mine are the roll and squeeze type.  Works great though.  No vacuum needed.

We have both the vacuum and squeeze versions of the bags. Both work fine. The vacuum type obviuosly works better especially for large bulky items. We pack our memory foam mattress in one. It is amazing how compact it gets. I would think that they would work well with sleeping bags. None of the bags we have carry the Coleman name which may add a few pennies to their cost. I think that the bags were first introduced as the amazing space saverbags.

The Coleman bags are actually Space Bag brand: http://www.spacebag.com/
