We have a 2000 Coleman Bayside and are considering adding AC this year.  Any suggestions on what type to get or not get, prices or other details we should be aware of before we start shopping would be appreciated.  Thanks.

You may have to obtain it from a Coleman dealer because, I believe, if you don't it may negate your roof warrenty, if you are the original owner. We didn't have one on our Starcraft Pop-up, and being in California, we wish we had. We do have one in the Hybred and love it.

Don't know what part of the country you are from, but here in the Mid-Atlantic, we wouldn't camp without AC.  We even talked some friends into getting an AC unit for their pop-up.  They thought it wouldn't work with all the canvas, but boy does it work!  I remember one trip that it rained and must have been 200% humidity outside, but it was VERY nice in the pop-up.

The only complaint I have about our air conditioners is that they are VERY noisey when running.  I had a Coleman Mach III (?) in the Coleman Pop-up and I believe a Duo-Therm in our Hybrid.  Both are very noisey.  I wonder if that is just inherent in the smaller AC units or if there are brands that are quieter than others.  I have a friend that used to build ambulances and he believes the AC units needn't be so noisey -- at least the ones he installed in ambulances weren't that noisey.  I haven't had a chance to discuss the details with him just yet.  I wonder if there are decible ratings out there on these units.

Campingboaters,

Nothing like having A/C. Yes they are noisey both inside and out but you will get use to it. Hope the neighbors do.

You can call your camper manufacturer regarding warranty.
I have talked to a couple of them and they do not void a roof warranty because of ac install.  They cannot be responsible for leaks around the AC of course.  Just make sure you do not add more weight than the roof can handle.

I purchased the Carrier Air V 2 years ago.  I am very happy with the Carrier.  It has a few features that I like.  A.  an air shower, it blows the cold air right down on you    B.  the slinger wheel, it reduces the amount of run off but throwing the water back onto the compressor   C.  The vents oscillate on the front end of the AC unit  D.  I have the AC/Heat model, the AC blows warm air (not hot) and helps circulate the hot air so that it doesn't sit at the ceiling.  If you check around you will find many people are very happy with their Carrier Air V. :)

We have been very happy with our Carrier unit also. We purchased it online and then took it to the dealer for installation. It saved us a few hundred dollars doing it that way. Even the dealer agreed. Hope that helps.
