We headed out for Assateague Island National Seashore when the kids got out of school last Wednesday.  We traveled the 300 miles with out any real problems, although I did have to re-tighten the 2 of the lug nuts, on the PU, 5 times before they decided to stay tight (I changed the wheels on the PU the night before we left).

As soon as we crossed the bridge to the island we saw "Scotty", one of the wild ponies that live on the island.  He is the only red roan pony on the island, so we can pick him out from the other ponies.  We always look for him when we go to Assateague Island.  We saw 15 to 20 other horses on the way to the National Park campground.  We also saw white tail deer, sika (a small elk), rabbits and a raccoon on the way in.

We were able to get one of our favorite campsites in the ocean side drive-in part of the campground.  We filled up the water tank, water heater and fresh water tank of the cassette potty.  Then we went back to our site and set up the PU.  Then I found a problem.  The "shepherds crook" for the front bunkend had a new bend in it.  I straightened it out enough so that it would fit for the 5 night we would be camping and finished setting up the PU.

The kids wanted a snack before they went to bed.  DS was eating some vanilla pudding when he spit some out and said "there is a tick in my pudding".    No one had been in the grass or weeds and already we had a tick in the PU.

Before we went to bed we all went outside to look at the stars.  They were so bright and wonderful.  I almost felt like I could reach up and touch them.  It was a wonderful first night of camping for this year. :)

It sounds absolutely wonderful!   Several years ago we had camped there and suffered through th heavy mosquitos, but enjoyed it nonetheless.  We were camping then and accross from us were 2 coleman with slideouts.  We did not know the difference in styles then.  But we did learn when the rain and storms hit, we got wet as well as all of the other tent campers and they did not.

That was the last time we tent camped and started looking for a PU.  It certainly is a unique place to camp.  Everyone should go there at least once.
