The DW and I are planning a week long trip in late May. We already have reservations with the TPUC group at a place near home for the last part of the week.

However, we have pretty much 6-7 days to fill in otherwise. We thought a trip to East TN/Western NC would be nice, with stops in two other cg's. So, we might stay 3 nights in NC (farthest) first, then to Townsend (or in that area), then to the cg nearest home.

Are there any suggestions for cg's around Biltmore Estate/Mansion? We went there in February, but there was grounds construction, and the flowers were nonexistent.

Ideas are welcome!

Hey Larry...I don't know about campgrounds in the Asheville area, but a little further north (just south of Boone) is Grandfather Mountain Campground.  It's our favorite place to go.

Hope this helps a little.

We have stayed at the Boone KOA.  It is a great CG.  The people there were very friendly and helpful.  It is also off the beaten path, really liked it there.

While there we visited Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, and Tweetsie Railroad.  We hope to go back one day when we get more that two days off in a row

We have stayed at both the Boone KOA and Grandfather mountian campground.  We really liked both with the Boone KOA our favorite of the two.

Last fall we stayed at a great campground near Ashville, NC, Campfire Lodging.  We went the weekend of the NC Mountain State Fair and had a great time.  The campground is small, clean, quiet, and has a great location.  They had by far the best bathhouse we have ever seen at a campground; made it really easy to camp with two small children.  They do not have a pool, but they have a nice pond for fishing and some short trails for walking.  May I also recommend you ride the Great Smokey Railroad just 45min west of Asheville.  We really love this train & hope to return again this summer.  They have a great rail & rapid package that includes some great whitewater rafting. http://www.gsmr.com

Another campground just west of Asheville is MoonshineCreek Campground.  I stopped by on my return from a trip and I really liked this campground & hope to plan a trip here soon.  It is also closer to the train. http://www.moonshinecreekcampground.com

Last, we stayed at a beautiful campground about an hour and a half south west of Ashville, Singing Waters Campground. http://www.kiz.com/campnet/html/zp/nc/0363/0363evnt.htm
It is located on the edge of a mountian stream with a stocked trout pond and a swimming pond.  The sites were huge and all deep in wonderful shade.  We stayed just before Christmas of 2002 after riding the Christmas train with my litte boy.  The campground was semi-closed(bathhouse closed) and it was cold (20 degrees), but we had a great time.  The owner of the campground turned out to be the Santa on the train!

I hope ya'll have a great time!

Larry,
We live in the Asheville area.  I will recomend a few for you.  If you
do not mind a bit of a drive, Moonshine Creek is a 50 min drive from
Biltmore Estate.  We have stayed there 4 times.  It is very clean, quiet and right off of the Parkway.  Grandfater Mtn is a nice area but we just came from there last weekend and it is about 1 1/2 hour drive from Asheville to there.  There is another that we have looked at and it is called Campfire Lodgings and that is about 25 min from Asheville on new highway 26.  It was clean and from what I hear it is nice - great veiw!

I hope this helps you.

Thanks again!!
