For Anyone In San Diego

Currently DD is planning of visiting her fiance' in San Deigo in July.  He leaves for Japan the day after Labor Day and this will be the best time for her to come and visit on a weekend.
 
The airline fare is between $230 and $300 and that's us taking her to an airport about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs drive away ... otherwise it would be at least $500 to fly out of Cincinnati.
 
What I need is "CHEAP, but DECENT" hotels close to the Navy station there.  Since I am not familiar with the area, and all the hotels listed in San Diego, I'm finding it difficult to get some relationship to where the Navy base. I've been on the internet searching for over 2hrs and I'm starting to go :eyecrazy: .

CHEAP but DECENT are generally mutually exclusive terms when it comes to hotels!  Exactly which base in San Diego is DD's Fiance?  The Navy has bits and pieces scattered all over SD.  IMHO go with a national hotel that has a price that is OK and go with it.  I have not spent a whole lot of time in SD but it is no harder to get around than Cincy.  Maybe they would rather be away from the base?  They could possibly rent a PU or TT from MWR and stay at the Marina.  IIRC they have overflow sites that are less than $10/day.  He can also have her stay as his guest in the Navy Lodge if there is a vacancy, those rooms are real cheap.

I know it is hard to find cheap and decent, but I was hoping someone knew of something close.  I'm not sure where he's located... he's on the USS Fitzgerald.  The only thing I can get out of her is he has to be close to his ship.  Since she's going out on Thursday, I'm sure he'll still be on the ship for Thursday day and Friday day.  He usually gets free in the eves, then he'll be free for the weekend.  She had to reschedule her trip (orginally planned for mid Aug) but he just found out that weekend he'd be out to sea.
 
I emailed him to check into the Navy lodge, but I wasn't sure if she would be allowed as they are not married YET!
