A call from NightOwl

Earlier this evening I had a call from Elisa, and she and sister Ziggy were in Nebraska, heading toward Denver Co.   It sounds like they are having a really good time so far, and their weather has been good.  (even tho they are heading thru areas that have been having some bad storms)  I mentioned to her that Birol had gotten her gift and posted a thank you, and she asked me to say "I'm so delighted that I get to be a small part of the adventure he's having with his PopUp, I hope that the gift will be useful."   I think that she will probably check in with me almost every day, so any messages to her can be posted here and I'll make sure she gets them.   I asked her if she was taking lots of pics, and she said that her camera was packed somewhere in the luggage.   I'll keep bugging her to find and use it, so we can see some of the scenery she's seeing.  (actually, for now it's been Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska, not a lot to see except lots of green, LOL.  Sorry, just joking, it really is lovely out there.)   She mentioned that they've stopped at several WalMarts along the way already.   Looking for bargains I guess, maybe comparing, and I think as a way to stretch their legs now and then.

Walmart sis? She's not shopping, she's saving money on campgrounds by sleeping in their parking lots! LOL

Now, I could use some of that Nebraska corn and some Iowa soy & pigs. But, Illinois? Geez, I thought Delaware was useless....but Illinois?? Hmmm...Land of Lincoln.....maybe a truckload of their famous $5 bills would make me feel better.

Well, she called me too...from a Walmart parking lot.    I tried to get a word in edgewise but it just wasn't possible. Guess they stopped there because it was pouring. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow.

I'm glad she & Zigi are having fun and a safe & trouble free trip. (Knock on wood).

TC, I knew you'd find a way to turn this into food!   And ya know, you just might be right about why they are going to so many WalMart stores.
 
 Elisa is a one of a kind person, and Zigi is right up there with her.  The two of them together are, for lack of a better way of putting it, 'a real trip'.   There's never a dull moment with them, and sometimes sparks fly a little.  They are both very firm in their opinions, but their opinions aren't always the same. (no Stepford Wife' cookie cutter women are they)
 
  Last night she told me about the adventure they had with a motel they stayed in.  They had decided to take almost all of their own foods with them, as Elisa is very determined to stay on her lo-carb way of life.  So, they packed in some things that she had prepared ahead of time, and a small electric skillet, and one of those little elctric hot pots, along with a cooler full of frozen things. (including a batch of 'Atkins recipe' homemade Swedish meatballs)  It seems that the motel that they checked into had a sign up that stated very clearly "Absolutely no cooking in the rooms!"   Of course they didn't notice it til after they had checked in.   So, they had to carefully sneak in their cooking tools, and she said that after they heated the meatballs in the skillet they didn't dare to turn on the exhaust fan in the bathroom or anything for fear they would spread the cooking smells.   She had me cracking up at the mental image of the two of them running around the room waving newspapers to fan the aromas from the air.   NO AL, she didn't say there were any meatballs left for you!!  
 
I can't wait to hear the next installment of this trip!
