Hello!

Rather than paying to have my cellular service switched to national long distance for our upcoming Michigan vacation, I thought about getting a phone card to use from the pay phones at the cg.  The card we have, A T and T from WalMart, charges 15 "units" to use it at a pay phone and I was wondering if they all do this?  Our cellular service, who shall remain nameless, has recently implemented a charge to change and/or add service and I think it'd be cheaper to use phone cards rather than pay this fee. For what we use it for, the cell service we have is fine other than summer travel time.

I have a calling card from Sam's Club and I also have to pay units (or minutes) to use it from a pay phone.  Seems to me it's nine minutes a call, but it has been a while since I used it from a pay phone.

I'm guessing that they all do that.

I rely on phone cards while traveling.  You never known when or where you're going to have a good cell signal ...

I have had a Sam's Club AT&T card for years.  It is 3.74 cents per minute and they charged 15 units to make a call at pay phone.  If you use the card from a regular phone there isn't a charge to make the call.  The trick to minimizing the charge for using the card at a pay phone is to make all of your calls at once with out hanging up and having to reenter your pin number.  I often make three or four calls at a time and only get charged the 15 units once. :)

Good Point, Tracy.  I forgot about this little trick!
