Dropped my husband off at Fort Stevens SP (OR) on Memorial Day weekend so he and his friend Ed could get started on their cross country bike trip (Pacific to Atlantic).  We're used to primitive dry camping, so that was a pretty amazing place to us!!  Anyway...we were loaded to the gills because we had 2 couples, 2 big dogs, and 2 complete sets of bicycles and assorted touring gear (including a bike trailer), so there was no room for wood and we ended up buy a little bit.  Then it RAINED the entire time we were there so we didn't get to have a fire.  Headed home with a much lighter load and with the wood in a box in the PU.  Got back to Montana and started having BIG truck trouble.  Had to leave the PU in front of a friends house in Missoula and hobble home (4+ hours more).

A friend of mine hauled the PU back a week later and I set it up in my driveway to let it dry out... luckily it wasn't mildewed!  ANYWAY, I left it set up in the driveway for 2 weeks without going in there.  Then, one day I decided to get it ready to pop down, went inside and was confronted with HUNDREDS of LARGE MOTHS!!!!!!  Yikes!!  :eyecrazy: :yikes:   You know, moths are not really all that scarey... unless there are HUNDREDS of large ones flying around your head.  yuk!  I got out of there and got the vacuum and did a little pest control... I took the camper apart trying to figure out where all the moths came from.... then I finally realized that it had to be the box of Oregon wood!!!!   ha ha!!  That's the LAST time I ever leave any wood inside the PU..... from now on it's staying in the truck!

EEK.

But better than the million carpenter ants I got from our firewood. Had nurses flinging them off my white labcoat, because they got INSIDE of my truck.

Yuck that doesn't sound like fun.  :eyecrazy:   I carry wood in a Rubbermaid Tote with the lid on, that way the bugs can't get into the camper so easy.

Ugghhh

I've always considered weight to be an issue, and because of that have always refrained from carrying fire wood with me. I guess now I have yet another reason to buy it there/leave it there...
