We have read and appreciated all of the previous threads regarding trips to Yellowstone.  We are planning our trip based on all of the previous nuggets of good stuff everyone has shared.

Realizing we may be 'wringing the towel dry," we are asking for any other suggestions of places to go....must stops, must sees and any other information that is helpful.  We have learned to never leave on a road trip without everyones input. ...it just would not be the same!

Thanks ahead of time!!!!.

I'm sure you've done so already but... just in case..... take a look at the road closings in the park. There are quite a few and not only will it change some of your routing, also keep in mind that the open roads will be busier (info is on the NPS website for Yellowstone).

If you're including the Tetons in the trip (I hope so!), the ferry ride across Jenny Lake and the hike to Hidden Falls is well worth the effort.

Leave a log on the fire for me, I'm heading that way next month! (sans camper)

The north side of the park has the most animals (especially Black Bear and Grizzlies).  And the south side has the Tetons.  Both are must-sees!  If you happen to be coming in through the east, I would definately recommend some time in Cody, Wyoming, and the Ponderosa Campground there has the friendliest owners in the world (although if you don't need hook-ups there are some gorgeous sites on the lake between Cody and Yellowstone).  You will probably need a reservation for Ponderosa if you stay there.  The campground isn't spacioius by any means, but it's the best CG (IMO) with hook-ups in the city, and the owners will go over the entire city for you, pointing out places of interest, free gunfights, etc.  The museum there is huge and I would recommend it if you like guns or the old west.

Someone here recommended Bubba's Barbeque in Jackson Hole (just down from the Tetons), and it was wonderful, so I extend that recommendation.

Have fun!  :)

JPrieser,SkipP and Miss Teri,

Thanks....We will take all of this in consideration.  Last year when we went to Grand Canyon we had no reservations except for the North Rim.  We just followed the guides and the recommendations from you all at PUT and made our way.

In aaddition, we just picked up the 04 edition of "The next exit."  It looks like it is going to be a big, big assistance!  Just got the brakes fixed on the TV and bearings packed on Hermes, our PU.  Now to start packing!  We are taking our bikes and 2 kayaks and canoe....and the kitchen sink:)

re: road closures - When I was in the park last Sunday, the road between Tower and Canyon was still closed form a mudslide that happened the week before.  Also, it doesn't sound like are headed over the Beartooth Pass (northeast of YP), but just in case you were thinking about it, there is highway construction going on up there.  Finally - last Sunday when I drove through the Lamar Valley (north end of the park) and saw a wolf in one of the meadows.  It looked like it was hunting mice or something.

have fun!

This is just the stuff that we wanted to hear. (about the roads) Because of the motorcycle rally we were thinking of going north through route 94 but I think we decided to go through 90 all the way.  Thanks for the information.

Maybe we will stick a Harley sticker on the bumper and go under cover:) :)   We appreciate anything that folks have to offer.  What kind of weather did you encounter.  We are at a loss for figuring out what to be ready to wear.

Where did you camp?  Any suggestions?  We spent the day getting everything ready.  It gets easier, each and every long trip we make.

You will need some warmer clothes for the evenings in the park.  It's quite a bit higher in elevation than I am here in Livingston, and it's been getting mid to upper 70's during the day and low- mid 40's at night here this week.  We've been having some weather changes this week, with thunder clouds and a bit of rain (never enough though  :( )   If the weather stabilizes again, it will be a bit warmer though.

PS.  The mudslide between Tower and Canyon was a few weeks ago I think.  It "ate" some tourist's cars.  Those poor people had to scrabble out the windows and across the mud to get to safety.... then they had to wait weeks to get their damaged vehicles back!!! yikes!  luckily though , no one was actually injured!!  Talk about a vacation buster!

Thanks...........I will make sure to pack my moose slippers:)

We are in the process of getting everything ready and this weather and road information is very helpful!  Now the problem is that we can't wait to get on the road!!!!!!!!!!  We will make sure to take lots of pictures!

Yes Dave!!!

We have our stickers everywhere!  We even followed Tracy's advice and placed one on a magnet so our TV can display it prominently!
