DH is wanting to change out our light bulbs in our 1998 Coleman Sun Ridge to help save battery juice.  Has anyone done this and have any suggestions and/or warnings?  Can we get the bulbs at a hardware store or do we go to an RV supply place?  Thanks in advance.

The bulbs in your fixtures are small incandescant ones like you'd find in tail lights of vehicles. They do not have a flourescent replacement like 120 volt house bulbs would.

You can replace the fixtures with, or add 12 volt flourescent fixtures and those do take common off the shelf flourescent bulbs available every where.

Here is what I did.

I decided to keep the original lights, and just add this one. The originals are in the wrong places for us anyway. We need one above the table and above the sink. Not over our shoulder, when you are standing at the sink! so this one moves from one place to the other. Since I built this, I have built another, now each of them stay in their own spot. When popping down the fixtures just pull off the roof and get stored in the hutch. The cords go straight across the roof, and tuck in behind the valances and drop to the power source. Which in my case is a 12V power port I installed by the galley. When plugged into shore power, I just plug them into the standard outlet.

My replacement roof has a 3 way switch for the lights (off, one bulb on, two bulbs on).  I replaced the first bulb that comes on with an LED bulb to save power.  If we need more light we turn on the second bulb. :)
