I have only been to Waters Edge  in Lebonan and would definitely go back again. Loved the hardwood trees. Clean. Would also like to visit more campgrounds in CT. ...maybe some with a lake or river? Anybody have any to add ? Would really appreciate hearingfrom you.

PIWe live in CT and our favorite campground is in CT as well.  Lake Waramaug State Park is in New Preston, CT, just about 20 minutes west of Litchfield, just off 202.  It has nice, shaded sites.  No hook ups.  No hookups in any CT state parks, as far as I know. The campground is just across the road from the lake where there is a nice little beach with canoe rentals available.  There is also a little concession stand.  Hiking trail run up the " mountain"  behind the campground.

Another of our favorites is Rocky Neck SP in the Niantic area... along the shore.  There are several camping ares within the campground with sunny as well as shaded sites available.  The beach (Long Island Sound) is within walking distance and admittance is included in the price of your camping fee.

I have also heard good things about Black Rock SP in Thomaston CT.  I have hiked there... good hiking and they also have a small freshwater pond for swimming.

Hammonasset is our least favorite.  All open sunny sites, little privacy.  Lots of party campers.  Frankly, I think Hammonasset party people were the reason for the alchohol ban that lasted several years.  Ground fires are not allowed at Ham. All fires must be in containers at least 12 inches off the ground.  Bring a fire bucket and cinderblock, raised fire pit or rent/purchase one there.

We have always camped the state parks in CT.  The state park campgrounds all have clean restrooms with free hot showers.  For the past several years the SP campground were alcohol free, until last year.  The alcohol ban was lifted.  Dogs are not allowed.

Last year we did camp once at Lone Oaks Campground in Caanan. (not a SP) Family type cg... popular seasonal cg with lots of teens.  Small sites, has pool and activities and a lounge for adults.

 Hope this helps...

We are going to try to get to Water s Edge in Lebanon, CT.  Hear lots of good things.

PIStrawberry Park is our favorite.  The activities are great.  Alll day long for the kids.  Three great pools and the amenities are always clean.

I like Hopeville Pond State Park in Griswold, CT . It is great for family camping.  Small enough where you don't mind your kids getting together with other kids and riding bikes through the cg. There is a swimming area and a boat launch.  No planned activites the kids have to make their own fun.  The bathrooms were clean and the showers are free.  Some of the sites are close together but some are larger.  Our favorite site is C1.  We will also be trying Lake Waramaug SP this year and I've heard great things about it.

My family has greatly enjoyed Riverdale Farm in Clinton, CT.

Nice and shady, good rates, variety of hookups, near Hammanesset (sp.) Beach. Not one of those fancy schmancy campgrounds with the olympic size pool and golf course --- this is good old fashioned camping!
