Gone-Camping

Ok, anyone heard of this place before? It's called Oak Ridge Campground
and is located within the Prince William Forest (NPS) in Quantico Va. From their website I've been able to discern they have primitive campsites, and a nice woodsy flavor. My brother from Mass would like to meet somewhere near DC in October, this just looked like a good spot. Though I've lived here in Virginia for 25 years, I never heard of this place until I stumbled across it last night. I'm hoping someone will have some pictures of the place in their webshots albums?!?!

Cliff...this is one of our favorite primative campgrounds...its just about 5 miles from where we live...I have pics on my webshots site. Look for Prince William Park June 2004. We go there quite often! They don't have hookups, but they do have hot showers. http://community.webshots.com/user/vjm1639
Any other questions, just ask! ---oh  yeah, even though they don't take reservations...they've never, ever been even close to full.

IF you are looking for a place in this area WITH hookups I can recommend a couple...however, this park is terrific if you don't have to have them!

There are only two things I actually need hook-up's for, the A/C and the TV... That being said, we're looking at Columbus Day Weekend in October, so I doubt I'll be needing the A/C, and I'm pretty sure I can get by without the TV for a few days. Actually, I have a small TV and an inverter so could probably make limited use of the TV for news & weather. I've already adapted the trailer for liberal dry camping usage, have double Group-27's on board, plus still have that Group-24 that came with the trailer (use that one on the inverter & tv?!?!)...

Seems more and more like this is going to be the place to meet! You sure they don't fill up? If there is even a remote chance of that, maybe we can get you to throw a tent or something up on a site for me?!?! Guess we'll see! Not sure what I'm going to do about North Bend COE, maybe work it in too, who knows!

I had a chance to meet with my brother on Sunday, but he called without any notice and wanted me to meet him for dinner in Richmond...just wasn't ready to drive 2 hours for a quick dinner and drive 2 hours back so I passed on the invitation. Considering half of Richmond wound up underwater on Sunday, it was perhaps a good thing I stayed home! Weather here was bad enough. We discussed the idea of meeting up in October when he comes down to Baltimore to visit his son...

You won't have to worry about this park filling up! I've never, ever even seen it even close to halfway full and I've lived in this area and been camping here for 16 years!   Actually, not much does fill up here for Columbus day weekend.  The folks that do go camping go to the mountains at that time of year, but Columbus Day is not a school holiday here so even for the government workers who get the day off, the three day weekend is blown by the kids having to be in school.   Like i say though..this campground never does fill up and I think it's because a lot of folks don't know it's there and the ones who do want hookups so they go to other close ones in the area...Pohick for one.  Pohick is nice...but I've never been there (and I've been there plenty of times...)where at least one night wasn't ruined by loud groups of people.  Prince William Forest Park will cost you a $5 entrance fee (good for 7 days) and $15 a night.  We are supposed to be gone over that weekend to the Blue Ridge/Shenandoah area again....our 10 day fall trip..... but now that we're getting ready to put our townhouse on the market and start looking for something else we're not sure what we'll be doing.  Let me know if you have any other questions!!   :>
