Mr. Heater users?

OK, this is probably because we're jealous of all the folks out there camping in the cool weather with beautiful leaves this weekend.

We don't have a furnace in our PU. Opted for air when we were offered a great deal on one or the other when we bought. We normally use a little ceramic heater in cold weather and we toss on the electric blankets if needed.

That all works great, unless we can't get a site with electric. Thus, we're considering one of the small Mr. Heaters. Questions:

~If you have one, do you like it.
~Is it noisy?
~Isn't the exhaust in the camper a problem? Safe? Dirty?
~Which size is right for a Cheyenne?

Other hints welcome.

Thanks,

Dave

I have the Mr. Heater, Buddy heater.  It worked good the first 2 seasons, but last year it would not stay lit.  According to the directions it needs cleaned.  No soot, but when propane burns it does give off water vapor and CO.  I like it and do use it in the PU and our Pah Que screen room when it is cold out. :)

Like you, we opted to not get a heater when we bought our camper. We have a Mr Buddy heater and it has no problems warming up the camper..... a Mesa.... just a little larger than the Cheyenne. There are two heat settings on the heater and usually, we put it on Hi to warm up the camper then turn it down to maintain. It makes no noise at all (okay, maybe a little hiss) because there is no fan.

Most people recommend ventilating the camper when using this heater and we do that but carry it a step farther. We have a CO monitor (battery powered) in the camper too.

With the one-pound bottles, expect about 5-6 hours run time on low.

Does anyone have a good thought on how to route a hose so we can use the propane tank on the front hitch?

You can get an entire kitLike this that will allow you to keep the 20# bottle hooked up and still tie into the heater. Then it's just a matter of slipping the hose through the tenting and hooking it up. When we had our Cheyenne, I routed the hose through the tenting by the front bed, behind the galley and into the heater set on the stove top. Haven't tried it with the Mesa yet..... just used the one-pounders

We have a hose and run it up through the bunk end to bring it inside.  :)
