Is it just me, or are times tough?  I am a professional video producer/photographer and have been looking for work for 2 months now with only a few nibbles.  Are those of you in other careers experiencing the same thing?  To see what I have done go to //www.corpvid.com.

Hope things are going great... DH has been unemployed since May 2003... he works 4 part-time jobs (7days a week), putting in over 70hrs (average), and still only making about 1/3 what he was making.

Wish the jobs would come soon... maybe after the election one of the "clowns" will do what they promise.:compumad:

Since my company was aquired by our competitor, I've been keeping my eye out for another job -- just in case I can't stand the new company.  Fortunately for me, I wasn't laid off like half the company was and I like my new manager, BUT the pickings are slim to none in the Computer Programming field here in the Philadelphia area.  I keep getting mail about jobs in NC or OH...  That does me no good.

I work in the semiconductor industry and so far I have held on. We have had several quarters where we were required to take time off.

My background and education are in mechanical and electrical maintenance, automation and optimizing existing equipment. I work in our QA/QC department where we perform accelerated lifetime testing on our products.
I have been involved in our internal auditing readiness team to prepare for QS9000 certification, which we received. I figured each skillset I pick up by volunteering will have some value in the future.
My education stopped at a Diploma in Electromechanical Technology. I had 3 class to go for the AAS but I had already been hired by my present employer.

I have looked to see what is available for my skills and there appears to be a lot of openings in and around my fields of expertise.

Things are thin in this area also. Very few fields are hopping compared to the past.
Hang in there something will turn up.

sympathize with all that has been said.  Unfortunately with todays job market, loss of employment in one area usually means you have to move to where employment is...that's what brought me from beautiful Northern California to #@&^%$*^, Pennsylvania 6 years ago.  Sometimes you have to be willing to uproot and regroup to make it.

Yep! My DH lost his job(of 23 years) when Koch bought the DuPont plant here in South Texas and reduced their workforce. Two weeks later our daughter started college. What timing!
We were making too much for financial help but now things have changed. Have to try FAFSA for help soon.  Living off on my teachers salary and temporary unemployment :(

The problem I am having I think, is our frequent recent moves for my wife's career.  She is a District Manager with Wal-Mart and we have moved 4 times in 6 years!  So my resume looks like I could never keep a job or was a job hopper.  We'll see what happens.

Just found out that I did not get the most promising job that was in the works.  Now it is on to another career change.  I can't believe that there are no positions open for a guy with my credentials.  I am part owner of an Emmy Award, and have received a couple of other national awards as well.  Oh well! If there is a God, I hope He helps me now. :%
