We picked up our Rockwood yesterday and are starting to create a list of things to get and modifications to make!

While we were going thru our walk-thru, the others were installing the brake controller, wiring, WDH and sway control.

Once we were done with the walk-thru, we went in to purchase the necessities like water hose, electrical cord, wheel chocks, etc. I came prepared with prices from several online stores. They were high on some things, but I got the lower price (with additional 10% off) each time they were higher. They also threw in some freebies as well.

I forgot to mention, the dealer is Bob & Jo's in Iowa. I would recommend them to anyone. I am handicapped and use a crutch for mobility. Before we signed our purchase agreement, I told them it would be nice if they could make it easier for me to get into it. The service person, I call him MacGyver, put a larger handle (that you would see on a class A) on the outside and made a customed handle device on the inside of the door frame that pivots thru the threshhold with a handle to help me get inside. Excellent work.

While we were spending our money, the technicians were out test driving. Afterwards, we went outside to find the WDH and sway laying on the ground in several pieces. MacGyver went through the setup with me and was going to take me for a test drive. Unfortunately for me, MacGyver (and most of his staff) is a volunteer fire fighter and had to abruptly leave to control a grass fire. So I didn't get my test drive, but I felt that I could make it home ok. The sales person gave me her cell phone to call if I had any problems.

Well, I didn't notice any sway. However, I had a strange "lifting" feeling that I think could be caused by the WDH. It seemed as though the back end of the Jeep would lift or bounce more than I expected. I only had me, DW and 8 month old in TV. The trailer had only the new "stuff" we purchased.

Is this normal and/or can be explained? Could I adjust the chains differently to help this? I think that there are 5-7 links and I had 3 links from the loose end hanging freely. (I hope that made sense!)

The other thing I just realized; our test drive was to go to the dump station to dump the tanks. We filled up the fresh water during the walk-thru, checked for leaks and then ran the faucets and toliet which put water into the other tanks. So I had 2/3 fresh water full and 1/3 full on gray/grey and a little in black. Could this be the contributor?

Any help would be appreciated.

I can't comment on WDH but water is heavy. I believe 8 pounds a gallon, so if 15 gallons in the trailer thats 120 pounds moving freely around. That is going to push you around a little. Its never a good idea to tow with the tanks containing liquids. As you say circumstance changed somewhat during your walkthru with them being called out to fire fight.

Before playing around with the WDH I'd try towing with the tanks empty and see if you still get the same feeling. Of course others on this site with WDH experience will come in and advise on changes needed there. You could also talk to the dealer. Sounds like you found a good dealership, so they should be very happy to advise and maybe complete that test drive  :D

I am fortunate to have also found a great dealer in Aarcee folding camping trailers in Minneapolis. They sure make our lives easier owning these trailers especially for those of us who are not technically gifted  :eyecrazy:

Enjoy your camping.
