18 volt or 24 volt drill on new Niagra to raise the roof

Got a question for all those who use a cordless drill to raise the roofs.

The new Niagra (in the Highlander series - not the GRand ELite) has a 14 foot long roof. Added to that we had our old a/c unit placed on it.

The sales clerk mentioned using a 18 volt drill to raise it would be fine.  The guy who gave us our tour said that wouldn't cut it. a 24 volt would, but would burn out eventually.

Any body use one on this series?  (this is the same as the 04 Hemlock) Any advice?
Any manufacturers to avoid?

The Socket Jenie people recommend a 24volt cordless with a 1/2" chuck. The Niagra is a big camper and you'll probably need the add'll power the raise the roof.

Be careful though. Those drills have a lot of torque and won't stop when the roof is all the way up. We had one guy tell us he broke his wrist when his camper top was all the up and the drill wanted to keep turning.  Use both hands.

The DeWalt 987 18 volt should do the trick.  Many people use them.

Before the new lift system on the Vikings, their electric lift was a 24V DeWalt. They also had a brace that the would stop the drill handle from torqueing your hand.

Anyone know where the 24 volt version can be found?  the Dewalt mention - has 500 fp of torque - a lot more than the other 18 volt versions.  which is more important - volts or torque?

Lowe's and Home Depot only go up to 18 volts around here

Having done more research - this dewalt has more torque than most 24 volts - it was the one recommended a few posts aboveL
