I just bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 2WD Quad Cab 3/4 ton Automatic with a 5.9L Cummins Diesel!! This truck is pretty much identical to mine with the exception of color, new one black/silver...old on green/silver. New one is 3/4 ton and has the diesel VS the 5.2L gas.

I bought from a dealer in New York thru Ebay. Picked it up for over $5000 under retail value. Will be driving out Saturday to pick it up, it is about a 6 hour drive or so. I think I am going to drive my current TV out and compare fuel economy on the way back. My son will be going with me to drive my present one back.

My first trip pulling the hybrid told me I needed more power. I only got 6-8 mpg on a round trip to FL from Maine. It was kind of pricey. The Dodge gas engines aren't know for the fuel efficiency.

Looking forward to the first tow with the diesel in April.

Chas, you will LOVE the diesel, I doubt you'd ever go back to a gas truck. I have an '02, and yesterday I added a little zip to it. Now I'm at 300+HP, and putting a whopping 645 lbs. of torque to the road! Awesome. Let me know how you like it, I love mine!

Charlie ~ you make the most interesting purchases on EBay!!   ;)

Hey very nice Charlie!! Little more room with that cap on the back.. My Dad has had three Cummins since they 1st came out. He has a 96 4wd dualie right now.

Hey, did ya keep "my" mudflaps for the new one??  ;)

I don't think that picture was his new truck. I think it was Rick's old one. If it isn't his new truck, I'd like to see pictures too!

Hey all!

Sorry for the confusion there... that previous pic is a pic of MY old Ram... Here's chas's:

Tracy - yes I have owned a "non-Ford". I am a Ford guy first, but have a weakness for certain Mopars.

chasd60 - you will LOVE owning a diesel! The reason why I got rid of my Ram was that it was a 5.9 (360ci) gas and traded it for my 2001 F-250 Powerstroke. I get over 21mpg solo, and high teens towing if I stay around 60-ish mph towing. The only downside that I have found is that it takes forever to fill up, as diesel comes out as a foam. You wait for the foam to bubble up, the pump clicks off, the foam goes down and so on... I get $10 - $12 more diesel in once it does it's first click. Oh, also have a grungy pair of gloves around to fill up. The smell lasts forever on your skin.

The mudflaps have PopUp Times Stickers over the dealers logo. For those that don't know, my original mudflaps have a wide metal part on the bottom and say "LEE" which is the name of the dealer I bought it at.

The new one doesn't have a cap, need to get one though. I do have a cap on the one I am selling though. Really don't want to take it off for the new one. I would have to get it repainted and I think I want to go with the higher top one next time. Had a hard time standing the bikes up with the ragular cap.

The last pic that copcarguy posted is the one I bought.

I did read your PM. I was well into thinking about getting a diesel, your experience just helped move me further in the direction I was headed.

Do you have a programmable tuner?
