Since I haven't been on the board in quite sometime I know I have missed many subjects. And, being too lazy to do a search I thought I would start a post on this subject...

Has anyone invested in the Microwave/convection oven? The following is a description of what it does..

This microwave/convection oven is like having 4 ovens in one: it grills, bakes, roasts and microwaves. An interactive display provides step-by-step programming instructions and cooking hints. There are 35 automatic settings. From Sharp, 0.9 cubic foot, model No. R820BC.

I have thought about getting one for the cabin since it could replace the convection oven I have and also the microwave I have. I figure it would be a great space saver. But before I invest $200 in one I would like to know if the thing works.

Shirley,

Around Christmas time we purchased a convection/rotissiere oven. It is fairly large. You can cook 2 12" pizzas in it, rotissiere up to a 7 lb bird. It is a Hamilton Beach and we paid $89 for it. After the  holidays it went on sale for $70. Target and Macy's carry them. We did not think we would use a microwave very often. Hope this helps.

Old Goat

Our microwave died a couple of months ago and we replaced it with a Grille  2 convection oven made by Sharpe, which we got at Wal-Mart.... It microwaves, broils, bakes and toasts...Wife likes it very much............

Thanks for bringing up this topic.  Right after I read this my DH asked if I was sure I wanted to keep the older microwave in the camper.  I told him about these that you have been talking about and we went to WW and got the one like "Old Goat" bought.  I think we will love it and we can use it to replace 3 other things to make more space.

Just wondering...for those of you who have purchased such a gadget can a 9x13 pan fit in there comfortably? (not like my pans complain if they are crowded) We often like to bake cookies or make a casserole and we prefer the 9x13 pans.

The only thing I can tell you is the oven size 13W X 13 1/2D.  I can't locate the book right now but will look when I find it and post your answer.  I would say probably not, as the pan would touch the walls.  I don't know how much room you have to put this appliance but there was another one at WW that was larger but we didn't have room for that one.  It was actually a little cheaper so you may want to check it out.

We found the book that came with it but it does not get explicit on what size limitations are.  DH said somewhere it said 10 X 10 X 2.  It does say not to use pans with handles that stick out past pan.  Maybe with use I will figure it out, but for now that is the best I can tell you.
