Picked up my 18yo DD's classmate/friend the other night and smiled at the sight of a popup in her driveway. When I asked her about camping, I was expecting her to say she hated camping or act like she's too cool to camp, but she said she loves it, goes to Otter Lake (Poconos - PA) often. Well, that just got the conversation going since we've camped there also. So nice to hear positive talk from this age group. The first time I camped was freshman year of college - cheap way to travel. Maybe my DD will continue the tradition (I still have a tent).

I remember talk last year around junior prom time about group camping for the weekend. My DH and I big on the idea then, but I expect she'll try to convince us again this yr. Anyone else's HS seniors do this?

Yes, my son did an end of the year blowout camping with some buddies. We turned him loose with our van and tent and 4 other friends. One parent was very concerned when she got no arrival call and called me....they were headed out into the woods to one of the guys family property which was undeveloped ( no phone, no nothing, just trees) both my son and 1 other knew the back roads of the area well enough I wasn't worried...all I could say to this poor crazed mother was, if they got lost at least they have plenty of food!  :)

They all returned in one piece (the van did too) and had a weekend they'll all remember.
