How do I ship a Pop-Up???

My DW and I are looking to purchase a used Pop-Up. Problem is, there are not many for sale in our area (Pacific NW). I am willing to drive to pick one up if it is within about 800 miles or so, but most of the listing are on the East Coast or the South East.

Does anyone have a recommendation on how to ship a pop-up, and what the cost may be for a cross country delivery? Speed is not as big a concern as quality of the delivery.

Appreciate your input.

I can't help you with the delivery problem but I have a bad habit of buying my new ones a long ways away. Both my popup and hybrid were purchased from a dealer just over 1100 miles away from me. The first time I made it into a vacation and the second time I drove out, grabbed it and drove back. I'll never repeat the second time method.

You may want to make it a vacation because from what I know shipping was about $1.10 per mile before the fuel prices skyrocketed.

If you check a place like //www.rvwholesalers.com which is located in Ohio and find a similar sized new camper, you can click on shipping to get a price. This would give you a rough estimate of what it would cost from there to where you live and you could calculate cost per mile.

 Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the info. I went to the link you posted, and the shipping came to just under $3000. That pushes the price of the used up into the new price range. I might as well buy local.

I did think about making it into a vacation, and if it were only around 1100 miles (i.e. So. Cal), I might consider it, but picking something up in PA, DE, or NY and treking all the way back to OR seems like a loooong haul...especially for a first time pop-up hauler.

Food for though however.

Eric,
My first time towing a popup was after I drove from Maine to Wisconsin and picked it up. I then went to Myrtle Beach South Carolina on my way home, kinda out of the way but well worth it in April. Was a little chilly here in Maine at that time and it was great in Myrtle Beach. That trip was just my daughter and I.
