I am considering some kind of trip to New Orleans with the PU.  Has anyone every done that before??  Of course, my DH doesn't know if yet, but I thought it would be fun.  I've checked Mapquest and it doesn't seem that bad of a drive.  Any input would be appreciated.

Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment, I don't know.

Thanks

You should e-mail Scott & Georgeann (gsm x2 or g-whiz, respectively).  They have taken their PU to Michigan at least twice.

I may do this next summer, I have been thinking about it since last summer. I may take the kids all summer. I have a brother in AZ. Aunt in TX. Dan's Twin & mon in New Orleans, Then I was going to head north to Ohio and across to Wash. and back down. it would just be me & the kids..we'll see how the trip to Wah & back goes first :D

We're planning 35 days this summer...from So. Cal. up to Yellowstone, South Dakota, Montana, Calgary and back down through Idaho and Oregon.  We've had a lot of fun planning it and hope that we all have a great time!!!!  We're thinking positive!:eyecrazy:

Estelle,

Georgeanne and I took that exact trip, then turned left and headed for Michigan.  We L-O-V-E-D it.  Loved traveling with a pop-up and wouldn't do it any other way.

Here are two things I can pass on to make cross-country "Popup/Popdown" travel better.
 [list=1]
  • Travel light....leave the tacky lights, fire ring, lounge chairs at home.  You'll want to pop-up and pop-down quickly at the end and start of the day.
  • Don't cook breakfast.  It just slows down the morning too much.  Much better just to get up, shower and start taking down.  Some people travel mega-miles; others sight-see and daudle.  Both benefit by getting hooked up and out of camp early.
I haven't looked at these in a number of years, but here for your and others enjoyment is the on-line log I kept while we were traveling.

I'm glad you posted the link Scott. I had tried to find it earlier, without luck. It's a great photo log of your trip, and I enjoy looking at them again.

Just a thought, I'd love for you to keep the pictures on the SCCampers site (even after your ISP decides to cooperate again) so others can share in your and G's marvelous journey. After all, as one of the founding members and web master for SCCampers, it's your web space too! :)

Thank you all for your wonderful input and advice.  Scott, that's a great log of your journey.  I browsed through it, but will take more time later to really look at it.

Everyone here is so helpful and knowledgeable.  Sometimes I feel ridiculous because we've had our camper for many years (although we've really used it a lot only the last couple), and I still feel that we're not organized enough.  I think it's the claustrophobic feeling in the PU with all the clothes all the time.  I think in Tahoe last year, we just kept the suitcases in the Suburban and took what we needed, put them back, etc.  Any advice on this is GREATLY appreciated. :)

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if we really will go all that way.  I kind of don't want to go to the South in the summer because of the heat and humidity.

We may go to Greece and Italy next summer and it will be hot there.  (But it's a dry heat! ;)   )

on my way up north and back I have several "just staying the night" places I may not even unhitch the trailer depending on if there's things to do in the area.

If you do all that with just you and the kids I will give you an award!!  You are a better person than I am.  I definately would not attempt that by myself with just the kids unless my 19 year old DS would come along.  I do think about other trips though without DH, because he can only leave his business for so long........  I am a SAHM (Stay-at-home-mom) so when the kids are out, I'm out as well. :p

Yep, from the couple of times we've camped with the Scampers, I'd say that Dee is indeed a tough hombre, that seems to be the rule rather than the exception for the Scamper laddies! They don't necessarily wait for the men folk when they hit the road.

Quite impressive in my opinion!

I go with 3 of my friends for a weekend every year.  This year it is May 13-15th to Newport Dunes.  Last year it was Idyllwild, CA.   We have a blast.  We don't even open up the stove, use the top as a bar.   :!

I like the SCcamperette weekend idea.  How about it???
