Quote from: Dee4jYou forgot to mention the $$$ you SAVE being able to stop anywhere (rest stop , paking lot)  and MAKE lunch. I know fast food costs us nearly $20 for lunch
and you're gauranteed a clean potty :D

Good point. When I was retrieving Holly from OH this past Friday, a couple times I told Holly how nice it would be to have a fiver or a hybrid behind us right now. A couple of the rest areas we went to weren't the best.

if you hauling long distance you can nap on the couch! we carry a 12 volt fan so we can get some cooler air. so when we stop at a rest area, ken can relax on the couch for a half hour, and then eat and get back on the road. beats a wood bench!

Talking to our Customers who have made the switch from Pop Up - Hybrid The gas mileage is not that much 1.5-3 seems to be the average.

You will have little more wind drag little more weight but the tandem axle and the new balance of weight has helped offset some of the mileage difference.

In 2003, we upgraded from a Coleman SeaPine to a TravelStar 19CK.  We also upgraded the tow vehicle from a Nissan Frontier CrewCab Long Bed to a 2003 TrailBlazerEXT w/the std 275hp 6cyl and upgraded 3.73 towing gears.  On the interstate w/o the TS behind us, the TrailBlazer gets around 21MPG (according to the on-board computer).  When towing the TS, the mileage will drop quickly down to the 10MPG range.  In the mountains of N GA, it has dropped to just above 6MPG.  I can't really compare the popup to the hybrid because the tow vehicles are totally different.  However, I definitely belive the mileage would be better if we were still towing the popup just because there was much less wind resistance.  I can also say that the TB EXT is very comfy towing with it's long wheel base and we have no sway issues even when large trucks pass us.  The optional V8 would probably provide a little more torque.

we loose about two miles per gallon when towing, but the comforts out way the added cost.
