Howdy! Can somebody give me a lift? The rear side of my top doesn't lift by cable any longer, and i can see the cable is broken underneath. Does anyone knoe a good place to buy a replacement online? Anyone out ever do-it-yourself and/or able to offer suggestions?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to get the cable from your dealer.  What brand PU do you have?  If it is a Coleman/Fleetwood you can see the Lift System Manual online here for 1968 to 2000 models.:)

Thanks for the info. The manual link is very helpful. The dealer wants $40 for the cable - no biggie, but $300 for tho comlete install - ouch! Know how difficult it is to do-it-yourself? Any more info at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for the reply.

I haven't replaced a cable myself but some of the others here have.  Hopefully one of them will chime in and help you out.:)

Today I replaced a cable on my 88 Coleman Laramie. At the same time my neighbor was replacing his garage door cable. Amazingly they appear to be the SAME CABLE/ferrule, the garage door cable is just longer.
...just in case you do not have a Fleetwood dealer nearby.
PS. My 250" cable from Fleetwood cost $18.

Thanks for the reply. Out of curiousity, what kind of tool did you use to crimp the ferrule, or did you use the screw clamp type? I am trying to replace both rear cables by myself and am having a heck of a time getting it propped up to 51". Any insights or suggestions?

If you don't mind my asking, how did you go about ordering a cable from Fleetwood and did $18 include shipping/handling/tax ect.? I don't have a dealer all that close myself.

I went to the local Fleetwood dealer in Ravena, OH (Check http://www.fleetwoodrv.com/locate/default.aspx for a location near you). I called 1st to make sure they had it in stock. So there was no shipping charges.

The local dealer said I didn't need to buy the tool, I could use a chisel, yes a chisel, to pinch the ferrule.

To lift the camper I solicited the help of a friend to lift the 'handicapped' corner as well as to prevent the telescoping post from coming apart. Then I propped up the corner with a broom handle that happenned to be the correct length.
